A SHOPPING DAY We live in the (¿uiuirb^of HCM city. Tw ice a week my, mother and I usually take a bus to HCM City to do some shopping. Yesterday was my mother's off-day. Early in the morning v>e took a bus to town. We were in town just after seven and we had the whole morning for shopping. --Elisi, we went to the ready-made clothes department. My mother bought 2 white shirts for my father, a pair o f blue jeans for my brother. I chose a pink (^vooleii) sweater. I liked it very much because it C' r o c ríe ^ tb ^ suited my complexion. At this d r p¿irtment prices were ftVftftlgrale and we didn't need to bargain. Before leaving, my mother bought herself 2 pairs o f gloves. we went straight to the shojc department. The shop-assistant greeted us warmly. He showed us £airy o f shoes o f really "nntl ijnahfy leather. Leather shoes and sandals oTvarious sizes and colors were on s^jp. The store was crowded with customers. They were either looking at the shoes or buying them. We both chose fashionable pairs o f shoes and left. It was nearly eleven o'clock. We called at a little café b\ the streetside to have lunch. A fte r lunch we went to the park nearby. We took á rest on the bench in the shade o f tall trees, waiting for the shops to be open again in the afternoon. At 2.00 p.m we returned to the shopping center We went to the China ware department. M y mother needed a dozen o f dishes and bowls. On the way to the bus station we called at the fast food department to get some ready-cooked food for the family when we got home. T R A N S L A T IO N IN T O V IE T N A M E S E MỘT NGÀY ĐI MUA SÁM Chúng tòi sống ở ngoai ỏ thành phố Hổ-Chí-M inh. Hai lần môt tuần tôi và mẹ tôi thường clón xe buýt vào thành phố Hồ ( hí M inh dể mua sắm. Ngày hỏm qua là ngày nghỉ của me tôi. Từ sáng sớm chúng tỏi clón xe buýt vào thành phố. Chúng tỏi dến thành phô sau 7 giờ và chúng tôi có được cả buổi sáng để di mua sắm. • • Trước hết, chúng tỏi đến gian hàng bán quán áo may sẩn. Me tỏi mua 2 chiếc áo sơ mi tráng cho ba tôi, 1 quán jean xanh cho anh tỏi. Tôi chọn mua một cái áo len màu hồng. Tỏi rất thích nó vì nó hơp với nước da của tôi. ở tại gian hàng này giá cả phải chăng và chúng tỏi không cán phải mặc cả. Trước khi di ra mẹ tỏi mua cho mình hai đỏi găng tay. Kế đó chúng tỏi di thẳng đến gian hàng bán giày. Người bán hàng “ đón tiếp chúng tôi mót cách niềm nở. ồng td cho chúng tói xem những đôi giày bằng da thứ thiệt. Nhửng đỏi giày và xăng dan nhiều cỡ và màu sắc khác nhau đươc bày bán. Gian hàng dông nghet khách hàng. Ho hoậ.c đang ngám nghía nhửng dôi giày hoặc dang mua chúng. Cả hai chúng tôi chọn mua những kiểu giày hơp thời trang rồi di ra. Đả gần 11 giờ, chúng tói ghé vào một quán ăn bẽn dường dế dung cơm trưa. Sau bửcì ăn trưa chúng tỏi (lên cóng viên kê cán. Chúng tói ngồi nghỉ trẽn chiéc ghé dài dưới bóng râm của các râ y cao c h i các cửa hàng mỏ c ùa trở lai V d 0 buổi c hiều. 12

Đổ sành sứ tráng men với nhiều mẫu mã dẹp khác nhau clã thu hút sự chú ý của các bà nội trợ. Cuối cùng, trước khi quay vẻ nhà, chúng tôi dên gian hàng văn phòng phẩm. Mẹ tôi mua nhiều đồ vãn phòng phẩm như mực, bút mực, bút bi và giây viết. Trên đường đi đến trạm xe buýt chúng tôi ghé lại gian hàng bán thực phẩm ãn liền để mua một ít thức ăn nâu sẩn cho gia dinh khi chúng tỏi về nhà. Trở về nhà, tỏi cảm thấy thật mệt nhưng một ngày đi mua sám thật thú vị biết bao! • 13
DESCRIBE NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS IN YOUR COUNTRY Every country has its own customs and traditions The) are manifested clearly in anniversaries, ceremonies and especially on New Year’s Days. In Vietnam every year towards the 15th day of the 12th lunar month, everybody begins to strip the apricot trees o ff their leaves and water melons are seen to be sold everywhere then one is ready to welcome New Year with all his merriment and joy. They all have their houses whitewashed and decorated, buy new clothes for their children aad(^et everything ready for TeLj G tf* c "fC'r On the 23rd o f the 12th lunar month those who worship Buddha o ffe r ceremony to the Kitchen God (Lares)|to send him o ff to H e a v e n ^ The nearer New Year comes the more excited and enthusiastic- people are. This is the unique occasion for everybody in the family to gather together to welcome New Year after a hard and long year’s work. At 12 o’clock sharp on the 30th o f the 12th lunar month the N ew Year actually replaces the Old One. A ll houses are w ell-ligh te d. At that very moment, everybody, well-dresed, rushes out into the streets to visit temples, pagodas or to go to churches. They all. p ra ^ T o r a Prosperous and Happy New Year. Người Việt Nam tin rằng ngày dầu nãm mới là ngày may mãn nhât trong nãm và nếu vào ngày này họ hưởng dược nhiều hạnh phúc thì quanh năm suốt tháng họ sè được hạnh phúc và íàm ãn phát đạt. Tết Việt Nam kéo dài khoảng nửa tháng. Nó mang lại khá nhiều hy vọng và vui chơi cho nhân dân trong nước. Sau đó họ lại sẩn sàng bắt tay vào công việc thường lệ. • 17
