Endometrial cancer studies have led to a number of well-defined but mechanistically unconnected genetic and environmental risk factors. One of the emerging modulators between environmental triggers and genetic expression is the microbiome. We set out to inquire about the composition of the uterine microbiome and its putative role in endometrial cancer.

Polysaccharide monooxygenases (PMOs) and Glycoside Hydrolases (GH) play a crucial role in breaking down chitin and cellulose. Research on PMOs has mainly focused on their role in the production of bioethanol from biomass. Still, the potential of PMOs as virulence factors in microorganisms is not been fully studied.

Bacteria strains isolated from plant leaves of papaya, cassava, sugarcane, yam, and taro, were investigated for their potential probiotic properties. Four isolates from food crop plant leaves were identified as Lactobacillus plantarum, Enterococcus faecalis, Lactobacillus paraplantarum, and Weissella paramesenteroides by sequence of 16S rDNA.

Animal studies show that high fat (HF) diet-induced gut microbiota contributes to the development of obesity. Oil composition of high-fat diet affects metabolic inflammation differently with deleterious effects by saturated fat. The aim of the present study was to examine the diversity and metabolic capacity of the cecal bacterial community in C57BL/6 N mice administered two different diets, enriched respectively with coconut oil (HFC, high in saturated fat) or soy oil (HFS, high in polyunsaturated fat).

Nitrogenase activity and siderophore production were not detected in the selected bacterial isolate. The 16S rDNA sequencing revealed that the bacterial isolate was closely related to Enterobacter sp. with 99% maximum identity. This investigation led to identifying the natural associations between the most promising nodule associated bacterium and Mesorhizobium ciceri in chickpea and the positive influence of their interactions.

Previous studies have shown that changes in intestinal microfloras are associated with both gastrointestinal (GI) and non-GI tumors. It is not clear whether there is an association between GI microflora changes and hematological malignancies.

Textile effluent samples collected from dye contaminated area of Ranipet, Vellore have been used for isolating bacterial strains. Among various bacterial isolates, BRTSI-3 was selected and was further characterized using morphological and biochemical analysis. 16S rDNA sequencing confirmed the strain BRTSI3 as Bacillus subtilis (NCBI accession number MH412808). The culture conditions for maximizing bacterial biomass were found to be optimized at 35oC and pH 8.0. Bacillus subtilis effectively decolorized methyl orange in nutrient broth within 48 h of incubation.

The present study was envisaged with the objective to isolate indigenous chromate tolerant bacteria from effluents and their subsequent utilization for chromium uptake or reduction. Samples were collected from two different Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs), located in Ludhiana (sample 1) and Jalandhar (sample 2). In both the samples, chromium was found to be the dominant metal contaminant. A total of 10 morphologically distinct isolates were tested for their tolerance to chromium in terms of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Cr required for complete inhibition of growth.

Genetic diversity of diazotrophs nodulating pigeon pea in arid and semi-arid zones of Haryana, India
The genetic diversity within forty nine rhizobial strains isolated from root nodules of pigeon pea crop grown in pots holding 5 kg soils collected from arid and semiarid zones of Haryana, India was investigated by using PCR-RFLP of the ribosomal operon [16S rRNA gene] and 16S rRNA gene partial sequence analysis. Genomic DNA of these rhizobial isolates was tested for nod C and nifH gene primers and hence authenticated as rhizobia. Out of 49 rhizobial isolates, only 35 isolates showed nifH gene amplification by using two different set of primers.

China aster (Callistephus chinensis L. Nees.) is one of the important flower crop in India. It belongs to the family Asteraceae is native to China. Phyllody disease in China aster was first reported during 1986 from Bengaluru, India and known to be transmitted by Orosius albicinctus. The disease was characterized by chlorosis, upright growth, small leaf, short internode, stunting, profuse vegetative growth and phyllody (transformation of floral organs into leaf-like structures).

Plants subjected to different environmental stresses, of which drought is a major abiotic stress constraint for crop production. Current study, investigated the adverse effects of drought stress on growth and modulation of root system architecture of rice inoculated with drought-tolerant bacteria Ochrobactrum sp. (MH685438). Polyethylene glycol (PEG) solutions of different concentrations (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% & 30%) were used for drought stress induction artificially.

Niger [Guizotia abyssinica (L.f.) Cass.] is one of the important minor oilseed crops in India. Phyllody disease on niger noticed for the first time at Main Research Station, Hebbal, Bengaluru, Karnataka. The molecular detection and characterization of the phytoplasma causing niger phyllody was investigated during Kharif 2016. The causal agent of the phyllody disease was identified based on symptoms, amplification of 16S rDNA of the phytoplasma by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from infected samples, as well as by sequencing and phylogenetic analysis.
