Joint hypermobility syndrome describes a disorder in which musculoskeletal pain occurs in a generalized joint hypermobility substrate. The clinical picture comprises variable manifestations which involve mainly but not exclusively the musculoskeletal system, and evolve over the person’s lifetime.

Cancer of unknown primary (CUP) is a well recognized clinical syndrome, accounting for 3–5% of all malignancies. It is characterized as a disease with an early dissemination of metastases without a primary detected site after extensive laboratory and clinical investigations. CUP is divided into the favorable and unfavorable groups based on histopathological and clinical manifestations. Adenocarcinoma of various differentiations is the commonest histopathological subtype. Favorable groups are treated with local or systemic treatment and some of them are enjoying long-term survival.

We live in an era in which public health is debated all around us, every day. Big questions emerge constantly: What’s the best way to deliver health care or respond to natural disaster? How will climate change affect health? What can we do to ensure clean, safe water for a planet of seven billion? Some of the puzzles that we in public health try to solve are fairly recent, such as the obesity and diabetes epidemics. Other quandaries have been around longer. The HIV/AIDS epidemic is three decades old now. Cigarettes have been identified as killers for more than half a century.

The mechanisms of action of acupuncture are not entirely clear. Although we have many pieces of this puzzle, it is still not complete neither entirely mounted. Another debilitating element is the absence of a convincing model of sham acupuncture for a control group in clinical trials. All this facts, allied to inappropriate prejudice and unfamiliarity, reinforce the false notion that acupuncture works mainly due to placebo effect.
