A contrastive analysis
-
The research clearly outlines some brief information about the structure of compounding between English and Vietnamese to find out its similarities and differences in both languages. In addition, the factors can be used in the contrastive analysis of compounding between the two languages. Learning the foundations of language, understanding how words fit together, and looking at the meaning behind them helps us get a full picture of how language works.

This thesis is comprised of eight chapters. Following this introductory chapter, Chapter 2 provides a summary of literature relating to OHS accountability and examines issues relating to OHS performance management. Chapter 3 presents a review of stakeholder, legitimacy and institutional theory literature. The research method employed is discussed and justified in Chapter 4. Chapter 5 presents the results of the stakeholder survey and in doing so describes stakeholder demand for OHS disclosure.

This study aims to investigate idioms that carry conceptual metaphor about power based on the theory of Lakoff and Johnson. To go further, this study is done to explore the similarities and the differences between the use of metaphor about power in English and Vietnamese idioms that reflect the culture of each language community.

The result of the study will be another illustration for the beauty of language, especially when it is used under the observation of cognitive semantics and metaphor. The findings of a contrastive analysis of English and Vietnamese will be a great benefit for Vietnamese learners of English. Moreover, the deep investigation will help them improve their understanding of meanings of words denoting the Names of human body parts and get better results in reading comprehension, translation work as well as in everyday language.

Quercetin 2,3-dioxygenase (2,3QD) is a copper-containing dioxygenase that catalyses the oxidation of the flavonol quercetin to 2-protocatechuoylphloroglucinol carboxylic acid with concomitant production of carbon monoxide. In contrast to iron dioxygenases, very little is known about copper dioxygenases. We have characterized 2,3QD from the fungus Aspergillus japonicus by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR). At pH 6.0, 2,3QD shows a mixture of two EPR species. The major form has parameters typical of type 2 Cu sites (g// ¼ 2.330, A// ¼ 13.

Strictosidine glucosidase (SG) is an enzyme that catalyses the second step in the biosynthesis of various classes of monoterpenoid indole alkaloids. Based on the comparison of cDNA sequences of SG from Catharanthus roseus and raucaffricine glucosidase (RG) from Rauvolfia serpentina, primers for RT-PCR were designed and the cDNA encoding SG was cloned from R. serpentina cell suspension cultures. The active enzyme was expressed in Escherichia coli and purified to homogeneity. Analysis of its deduced amino-acid sequence assigned the SG from R. serpentina to family 1 of glycosyl hydrolases.

In rod phototransduction, cyclic GMP synthesis by mem-brane bound guanylate cyclase ROS-GC1 is under Ca 2+ -dependent negative feedback control mediated by guanylate cyclase-activating proteins, GCAP-1 and GCAP-2. The cellular concentration of GCAP-1 and GCAP-2 approxi-mately sums to the cellular concentration of a functional ROS-GC1 dimer. Both GCAPs increase the catalytic effi-ciency (kcat /Km) of ROS-GC1. However, the presence of a myristoyl group in GCAP-1 has a strong impact on the regulation of ROS-GC1, this is in contrast to GCAP-2....

In this article we compared the metabolism of phosphorylated and unphosphorylated oligosaccharides (cellodextrins and maltodextrins) in Fibrobacter succinogenes S85 resting cells incubated with the following substrates: glucose; cellobiose; a mixture of glucose and cellobiose; and cellulose. Intracellular and extracellular media were analysed by 1 H-NMR and by TLC. The first important finding is that no cellodextrins were found to accumulate in the extracellular media of cells, regardless of the substrate; this contrasts to what is generally reported in the literature....

p-Hydroxyphenylacetate decarboxylase from Clostridium difficilecatalyses the decarboxylation ofp-hydroxyphenyl-acetate to yield the cytotoxic compoundp-cresol. The three genes encoding two subunits of the glycyl-radical enzyme and the activating enzyme have been cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The recombinant enzymes were used to reconstitute a catalytically functional system in vitro. In contrast with the decarboxylase purified fromC.

The expression of the colonic mitochondrial 3-hydroxy 3-methyl glutaryl CoA (mHMGCoA) synthase,a key con-trol site of ketogenesis from butyrate,is lower in germ-free (GF) than in conventional (CV) rats. In contrast, the activity of glutaminase is higher. The objective of this study was to investigate whether the intestinal flora can affect gene expression through short chain fatty acid (SCFA) and butyrate production. GF rats were inoculated with a con-ventional flora (Ino-CV) orwitha bacterial strainproducing butyrate (Clostridium paraputrificum,Ino-Cp) or not (Bifidobacterium breve,Ino-Bb).

Chicken metallothionein (ckMT) is the paradigm for the study of metallo-thioneins (MTs) in the Aves class of vertebrates. Available literature data depictckMTas a one-copy gene, encoding an MT protein highly similar to mammalian MT1. In contrast, the MT system in mammals consists of a four-member family exhibiting functional differentiation.

Mature lung surfactant protein C (SP-C) corresponds to residues 24–58 of the 21 kDa proSP-C. A late processing intermediate, SP-C i, corresponding to residues 12–58 of proSP-C, lacks the surface activity of SP-C, and the SP-Ci a-helical structure does not unfold in contrast to the metastable nature of the SP-C helix.

Human carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1B (CPT1B) is a highly malonyl-CoA-sensitive enzyme (IC50 = 0.097lm) and has a positive determinant (residues 18–28) of malonyl-CoA inhibition. By contrast, rat carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1A is less sensitive to malonyl-CoA inhibition (IC50= 1.9lm), and has both a positive (residues 1–18) and a negative (residues 18–28) determinant of its inhibition.

The conformationally coupled mechanism by which ATP is utilized by yeast Hsp90 is now well characterized. In contrast, ATP utilization by human Hsp90s is less well studied, and appears to operate differently. To resolve these conflicting models, we have conducted a side-by-side biochem-ical analysis in a series of mutant yeast and human Hsp90s that have been both mechanistically and structurally characterized with regard to the crys-tal structure of the yeast Hsp90 protein.

The antibiotic heliquinomycin, which inhibits cellular DNA replication at a half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 1.4–4lm, was found to inhi-bit the DNA helicase activity of the human minichromosome maintenance (MCM) 4/6/7 complex at an IC50value of 2.4lm. In contrast, 14 lmheliqui-nomycin did not inhibit significantly either the DNA helicase activity of the SV40 T antigen and Werner protein or the oligonucleotide displacement activity of human replication protein A.
