The goal of this book is to give you the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in calculus. Much of the difficulty calculus students face is with algebra. They have to solve equations, find equations of lines, study graphs, solve word problems, and rewrite expressions—all of these require a solid background in algebra. You will get experience with all this and more in this book. Not only will you learn about the basic functions in this book, you also will strengthen your algebra skills because all of the examples and most of the solutions are given with a lot of detail.

The problem of optimal stabilization for a class of nonlinear systems with coe±cients that depend on the state of the control object is considered. The results obtained for nonlinear systems are used in the construction of control parameters for a three-sector economic cluster on an innite time interval.

In the context of current educational innovation with an increase in the use of mathematics to solve real life problems, the application of the theory of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) in teaching mathematics is appropriate and feasible. This article provides an overview of the RME theory and its application in teaching mathematics. Based on this theoretical framework, we compare the ways of the introduction of the function y = ax2 (a ≠ 0) in the Vietnamese and American textbooks.

In this paper, we consider the inventory model for perishable items with quadratic trapezoidal type demand rate, that is, the demand rate is a piecewise quadratic function under constant deterioration rate. The model consider allows for shortages and the demand is partially backlogged.

A study was conducted on the gross features of the splenchnocranium of an aged great Indian horned owl and its morphological peculiarities were correlated with its possible functions. The horizontal plate of ethmoid was wide and well developed. The lacrimal was very large and the lower orbital ring was incomplete. The external nares were oval in shape. The premaxilla was steeply curved down and had a hooked tip. The maxilla was highly reduced and formed a movable articulation with the palatine and zygomatic bone.

Herein, a polyamide-based thin film composite (TFC) membrane was fabricated for the removal of arsenic (As) from water. The polyamide thin film was synthesized through interfacial polymerization (IP) onto a polysulfone porous substrate. A Box-Behnken design of response surface methodology was used to investigate the effect of preparation conditions, including piperazine (PIP) concentration, trimesoyl chloride (TMC) concentration, and reaction time on the As rejection and permeate flux of the synthesized membrane.

The objective of this present study was to obtain optimized conditions for calculating cassava starch properties using response surface methodology (RSM). In this study, BoxBehnken response surface design (BBD) was used to optimize cassava starch properties (3 independent process factors at 3 levels with 17 runs) and to evaluate the main, linear and combined effects of cassava starch extraction conditions. The independent process variables selected in this study were sonication temperature (30, 40, 50°C), sonication time (10, 20, 30 min) and solid-liquid ratio (1:10, 1:20, 1:30 g/ml).

In this article, a novel derivative-free (DF) surrogate-based trust region optimization approach is proposed. In the proposed approach, quadratic surrogate models are constructed and successively updated. The generated surrogate model is then optimized instead of the underlined objective function over trust regions. Truncated conjugate gradients are employed to find the optimal point within each trust region. The approach constructs the initial quadratic surrogate model using few data points of order O(n), where n is the number of design variables.

In this paper we explore a random process generated by the incomplete Gauss sums and establish an analogue of weak invariance principle for these sums. We focus our attention exclusively on a generalization of the limit distribution of the long incomplete Gauss sums given by the family of periodic functions analyzed by the author and Marklof.

We deal with the harmonicity of quadratic maps defined on R 4 (endowed with a Walker metric q ) to the n-dimensional semi-Euclidean space of index r , and then between local charts of two 4-dimensional Walker manifolds. We obtain here the necessary and sufficient conditions under which these maps are harmonic, horizontally weakly conformal, or harmonic morphisms with respect to q.

In this paper we propose two algorithms based on branch and bound method and reduced interval techniques to compute all real zeros of a polynomial. Quadratic bounding functions are proposed which are better than the well known linear underestimator. Experimental result shows the efficiency of the two algorithms when facing ill-conditionned polynomials.

In this paper, we propose a new genetic encoding for well known Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP). The new encoding schemes are implemented with appropriate objective function and modified genetic operators. The numerical experiments were carried out on the standard QAPLIB data sets known from the literature. The presented results show that in all cases proposed genetic algorithm reached known optimal solutions in reasonable time.
