The marine environmental conditions are particularly different from terrestrial ones; recent studies have showed that marine actinomycetes might produce many novel compounds with good biological activity. The objective of this study is to isolate and screen actinomycetes strains from the marine environment with activity against pathogenic microorganisms.

In our continuing search for bioactive molecules, we collected a Streptomyces fradiae strain cultured from a prickly pen shell sample obtained at Van Phong, Khanh Hoa province, Vietnam. The ethyl acetate extract of Streptomyces fradiae G650 exhibited the strong inhibition against a panel of gram-positive bacteria including Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, Staphylococcus aurerus ATCC 25923, Bacillus cereus ATCC 14579, and the yeast Candida albicans with the MIC values of 8, 32, 32, 8 µg/mL, respectively.

The results showed that 02 bacterial strains and 06 actinomycete strains were selected from 32 isolates. Then, we optimized the growing conditions of the screened microorganisms. Among actinomycetes strains PU1.1, PU2.1 gave the highest weight loss results, therefore they were selected for further study. Our results showed that TG2.1 and CM4.1 are Bacillus subtilis. PU1.1 is Streptomyces lilacs, while PU1.2 is Streptomyces Misiones. The selected microorganisms belong to risk group level 1 (safety group).

In the present study it was aimed to obtain novel strains of actinomycetes that have the ability to promote plant growth. For this, seven soil samples from the rhizosphere of Humulus lupulus (Pazaryeri, Bilecik) were used and potential isolates were obtained. 16S rRNA genes of 30 isolates were amplified by PCR and sequenced. Eighteen isolates were found to be closely related to Streptomycetes spp. and they were tested for their proteolytic activity, cellulase activity, phosphate solubility, IAA production, biofilm formation, and growth in nitrogen-limited medium.

Actinomycetes have got considerable attention worldwide due to the production of many useful bioactive metabolites. In the present study, the antimicrobial potential of novel Actinomycetes has been evaluated by the initial screening of seven rhizosphere samples in Egypt. The primary and secondary screening were performed against Bacillus cereus (ATCC33018), and E.coli O157 (ATCC93111) as model strains of Gram positive and Gram negative species, respectively.

The study of actinomycetes strains from mountain soils are important because they are an extreme environment which has not been extensively studied but is believed to have a large diversity of organisms that have not yet been discovered. On this basis, it is presumed that the chances of isolating novel actinomycetes from these soils are high.

In this study we examined diversity and activities of some actinomycetes isolated from mangroves in Giao Thuy, Nam Dinh Province. The distribution of actinomycetes in soil is strongly affected by external factors. Extra-cellular enzyme producing ability of mangrove actinomycetes is very high, particularly the ability of producing cellulase degrading filter paper (122/128 strains), CMC (110/128 strains), protease (83/128 strains) and amylase (78/128 strains).

Aquatic pollution occurs due to the discharge of harmful substances, chemicals or microorganisms into water bodies i.e. a stream, river, lake, ocean, aquifer, or other body of water resulting in contamination & degradation of water quality and rendering it unsuitable for human use or the environment. Many advanced water treatment techniques are followed before discharging this polluted water into the surrounding environment. However some limitations is there. In this context, Biofilms have become the important part of biological treatment of municipal waste water.

A total of 17 endophytic actinomycete strains were obtained from 6 medicinal plants of Mizoram, Northeast, India. 16S rRNA results showed 13 (73.3%) of the isolates belonged to the genus Streptomyces, 2 (13.3%) were Nocardiopsis, 1 (6.6%) were Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens and 1 (6.6%) Actinobacteria bacterium. The highest number of endophytic actinomycetes was isolated from root tissue of Mikania micrantha Kunth. WI. (29.4%) followed by stem of Mikania micrantha Kunth. WI. and rhizome of Costus speciosus (J. Konig).

Biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles using microorganisms such as actinomycetes, fungi and bacteria has attained great interest and importance because of their potential to synthesize nanoparticles of various morphologies. This study focused on the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using the culture supernatant of bacterial strain BRTSI-2 isolated from the Phyllosphere. Molecular identification of the isolate BRTSI-2 by16S rDNA sequencing identified the strain as Pseudomonas fluorescens.

Natural pigments were obtained and utilized from plants, insects and ores in prehistoric period and it has been over ruled by the synthetic dyes and pigments, inspite of its vast array of disadvantages to the ecosystem. The demand for natural pigments has triggered the researchers to look for an alternative approach, which could replace the synthetic pigments. Microorganisms such as algae, fungi, actinomycetes and bacteria play an interesting role in the world of colors with their chromogenecity.

Characterization of cellulolytic microorganisms associated with naturally decomposing waste material
Thirty four samples of naturally decomposing waste material were collected from rural and urban parts of Western Maharashtra from which 64 bacteria, 49 fungi and 63 actinomycetes strains were isolated. The isolates were screened for cellulolytic activity on Czapek’s mineral salt agar media amended with carboxymethyl cellulose. Seventeen bacteria, thirty fungi and fifty seven actinomycetes isolates showed zone clearance indicating cellulase enzyme activity.

In this study, 46 strains of actinomycetes were isolated from 40 samples including: sediments, sponges, soft corals, echinoderms and starfish collected from three coastal areas of Vietnam: Thanh Hoa – Quang Binh – Quang Tri. The strains were fermented in A+ medium and fermentation broths were extracted 5 times with ethyl acetate then the extracts were evaporated under reduced pressure to yield crude extracts.

61 actinomycete strains were isolated by culture techniques in mangrove forests in Cat Ba, Hai Phong and Xuan Thuy, Nam Dinh. The 31 isolates (50.82%) showed the antibacterial activity with at least one of test microorganisms including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Bacillus cereus, in which two strains SCA N2.2 and GI H1.3 had strongest antibacterial activity. Two strains growed at optimal temperature at 37ºC. Strain SCA N2.2 could grow in the medium with 3% NaCl concentration while GI H1.3 strains growed in the medium without NaCl.

Microorganisms are of particular interest because of their ability to synthesize high-value secondary compounds and provide us with novel and diverse chemical structures. The most common source of antibiotics is Actinomycetes which provide around two-third of naturally occurring antibiotics, including many of medical importance. In this study, 81 strains of actinomycetes were isolated from 145 samples including: sediments, sponges, soft corals, echinoderms and starfish collected from three sea areas of Vietnam: Hue, Da Nang and Quang Nam.
