Currently, there is no approved guideline regarding management of patients with polycythemia vera (PCV) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) given the low prevalence. Standard maintenance therapy may be inadequate in cases where patients’ response to standard treatment show heterogeneity.

Novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) have made the use of anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib) much more convenient and predictable. It is a very common practice to hold anticoagulation either in anticipation of surgical procedures (to prevent excessive bleeding) or in case of acute bleeding episodes.

Variceal bleeding is a severe complicaton of portal hypertension due to cirrhosis with high rate of motality. The aims of this study was to compare the accuracy of CTP - crea (creatinine-modified Child Turcotte Pugh score) with traditional CTP and MELD score for predicting in rebleeding and mortality within first five days and 6-week in cirrhotic patients with acute variceal bleeding.

Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is considered a hematologic emergency due to high risk of bleeding and fatal hemorrhages being a major cause of death. Despite lower death rates reported from clinical trials, patient registry data suggest an early death rate of 20%, especially for elderly and frail patients.

Acute bleeding is an omnipresent challenge for all physicians. Uncontrolled hemorrhage is the most common preventable cause of death after trauma worldwide. In different surgical disciplines, hemorrhage represents an independent risk factor for increased postoperative morbimortality, directly affecting patients’ outcomes. This study asked anesthesiologists about their personal perceived challenges when treating bleeding patients.

We report a case of recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding in the setting of diffuse duodenal and colorectal varices. These varices were secondary to either congenital absence of the portal vein or chronic occlusion of the portal vein leading to cavernous transformation of a collateral network of varices. He was acutely managed with injection of N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate into a large complex of duodenal varices.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common and severe complication during treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). An important cause is the intensive use of asparaginase. Prospective cohort studies in which prophylactic low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) was used to prevent VTE showed lower VTE risk than in historic control cohorts, with a negligible bleeding risk.
