In the present paper, a new process, whose acronym is UTN (University of Trento) system, is proposed and tested at full scale for reducing the amount of sludge of the wastewater treatment plant. The UTN system allows sludge reduction in conventional activated sludge (CAS) due to the cell lysis, the sludge decay and, above all, to the selection of slow growing microorganism.

The complete treatment of colors and hazardous substances at a reasonable cost is of particular interest in the textile industry. In this batch form study, dye solution and textile dyeing wastewater were successfully treated by Fenton technology combining Moving Bed Reactor/Activated carbon (Fenton-MBR/AC) system. The optimum operating conditions including 3.5 of pH value, 0.5 of Fe/H2O2 ratio, 25mL of H2O2 (30%) solution, and 200mL of sample were found. After 60 min, the color removal and efficiency of COD treatment was 94% and 89%, respectively.

In this paper, recent advances in the CUPID code are presented in three sections. First, the domain decomposition parallel method implemented in the CUPID code is described with the parallel efficiency test for multiple processors. Then, the coupling of CUPID-MARS via heat structure is introduced, where CUPID has been coupled with a system-scale thermal-hydraulics code, MARS, through the heat structure. The coupled code has been applied to a multi-scale thermal-hydraulic analysis of a pool mixing test. Finally, CUPID-SG is developed for analyzing two-phase flows in PWR steam generators.

The advanced passive pressurized water reactor (PWR) is being constructed in China and the passive residual heat removal (PRHR) system was designed to remove the decay heat. During accident scenarios with increase of heat removal from the primary coolant system, the actuation of the PRHR will enhance the cooldown of the primary coolant system. There is a risk of power excursion during the cooldown of the primary coolant system. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the thermal hydraulic behavior of the reactor coolant system (RCS) at this condition.

The secondary side of the HOTSG is divided into single-phase liquid region, nucleate boiling region, postdryout region, and singlephase vapor region. Different heat transfer correlations and pressure drop correlations are reviewed and applied. To benchmark the developed physical models and the computer code, H-OTSGs developed in Marine Reactor X and System-integrated Modular Advanced ReacTor are simulated by the code, and the results are compared with the design data.

This paper proposes a TakagieSugeno (TeS) fuzzy logic-based power distribution system. Two TeS fuzzy power distribution controllers have been designed and tested. Simulation shows that the devised TeS fuzzy controllers provide improved performance over traditional controls during daily load-following operation under different levels of pump degradation.

The long-term economic viability of these advanced reactor plants depends on significant reductions in plant operations and maintenance costs. To accomplish these goals, intelligent control and diagnostic capabilities are needed to provide nearly autonomous operations with anticipatory maintenance. A nearly autonomous control system should enable automatic operation of a nuclear power plant while adapting to equipment faults and other upsets. It needs to have many intelligent capabilities, such as diagnosis, simulation, analysis, planning, reconfigurability, self-validation, and decision.

Monte Carlo calculation method can be used for resolving particle transport in matter, and particularly the transport of neutrons in the environment of the reactor core.
