In this research the effect of ground proximity on the lift, drag and moment coefficients of inverted, two-dimensional aerofoils was investigated. The purpose of the study was to examine the effect ground proximity on aerofoils post stall, in an effort to evaluate the use of active aerodynamics to increase the performance of a race car. The aerofoils were tested at angles of attack ranging from 0° – 135°. The tests were performed at a Reynolds number of 2.16 x 105 based on chord length. Forces were calculated via the use of pressure taps along the centreline of the aerofoils.

The current research is undertaken by performing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations for a 2D aerofoil fitted with a shock control bump at a transonic flow condition. Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equation coupled with turbulence models is adopted to solve the flowfield. The bump has a conventional geometric feature which consists of a ramp, a crest and a tail, and it has eight variants for which the designed parameters are reasonably specified according to the compressible aerodynamics theory.

Morphing wings were once in the common in early aviation however due to a lack of strong and lightweight materials they were abandoned in favour of conventional wings. Due to the recent advances in smart technologies, morphing wings has become of interest in aviation. This paper proposes the use of internal mechanisms to promote morphing in a wing to increase aerodynamic performance as opposed to the smart technologies. To determine the aerodynamic superiority of the morphing wing it was compared to a conventional wing of the same geometry.

An unsteady aerodynamic model based on the potential-flow theory is used to determine the ground effect at several flight conditions. The purpose of the research is to determine and compare the impact of some factors on aerodynamic drag force during the inflation of a parachute. The canopy’s shape (flat circular type and extended skirt 10% flat type), of the length of suspension lines (be in proportion to nominal diameter from 0.6 to 1.5) are considered. Measurement of the drag force of the parachute models is carried out in an open return wind tunnel.

In this paper, a robust hierarchical method for trajectory tracking control of a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) subjected to parameter uncertainties and external disturbances is presented. A robust control scheme based on a fast nonsingular terminal sliding mode strategy is designed to achieve fast response and excellent tracking accuracy. Moreover, a radial basis function artificial neural network with online adaptive schemes to estimate unknown aerodynamic parameters and external disturbances is developed to improve the control performance and reduce the chattering phenomenon.

This study describes an effectively analytic methodology to investigate the aerodynamic performance of H vertical axis wind turbine (H-VAWT). An in-house code based on double multiple stream tube theory (DMST) coupled with dynamic stall and wake correction is implemented to estimate the power coefficient. Knowledge about the morphological adaptations of body and wing in birds helps to know about their aerodynamic performance. The present study was aimed to analyze the morphometry of the wing of the blue and yellow macaw (Ara ararauna) with reference to aerodynamics. Various aerodynamic measurements namely body weight, body length, wing span, wing area, wing load and aspect ratio were measured in three adult male birds. The wings were short, elliptical and rounded.

In this paper, a commercial CFD code, ANSYS-Fluent has been used to investigate the effect of mesh number generated in the computed domain on the CFD aerodynamic performances of a container ship. A full-scale model of the 1200TEU container ship has been chosen as a reference model in the computation. Five different mesh numbers for the same dimension domain have been used and the CFD aerodynamic performances of the above water surface hull of the ship have been shown.
