The analysis produced a conventional key with a detailed description of every species in terms of the 54 characters. The key is decidedly a marked improvement over its predecessors in that it is strictly comparative and leads directly to the full scientific name of any taxon, instead of having to use a key to the genera followed by a second key to the infra-generic taxa.

  • We tested the hypothesis that plant populations in natural fragments have distinct ecological behavior in relation to anthropic fragments. We selected the species Myrcia splendens (SW.) DC. in 2 forest fragments located in southeastern Brazil that present different origins and landscape contexts. The natural fragment originates from landscape relief variations and is inserted in a native grassland matrix, while the anthropic fragment originates from fragmentation due to area conversion and is inserted in an agricultural matrix.

  • A key reason is that agricultural production has few technical (dis) economies of scale, implying that a range of production forms can coexist. A look at the 300 or so publicly listed companies in table 4 illustrates this point. Even though farming accounts for 22 percent of the global agricultural value chain, it makes up a mere 0.2 percent of equity market capitalization. As of October 2009, there were only seven publicly listed farming companies worldwide, three in Brazil and Argentina and four in Ukraine and Russia.

  • The study area is located on an ecosystem that is of low carrying capacity and as such this has necessitated excessive use of agro-chemicals to enhance productivity. The effects from these practices is that the chemicals find their way into the lake through runoff from the agricultural parcels of land. Because the land generally slopes towards the lake. Poor tillage practices often result in soil erosion and the loose soil is carried awash into the lake. All these result in increased eutrophication of the lake’s waters.

  • The success with organic foods depends on consumer acceptance and use. Potential consumers may not even be aware of organic foods or may have the wrong perception even when aware. More knowledge could lead to increased use of organics due to the link between awareness and purchases. Briz and Ward (2009) argue that while awareness is based on consciousness, consumption requires an explicit buying commitment that should be influenced by price and appropriate measure(s) of the organic quality. These may be important attributes to consider increasing organic food consumption. ...

Then, different sources like the World Bank or the OECD came up with indica- tions of how profound the role of the financial sector is.
