The aim of this project was to select highly sensitive and specific aptamer capable of detecting Fusarium graminearum (Fg) and F. pseudograminearum (Fp) species. The aptamer-based testing allows early detection of fungal infection in the field. Fungi are known to change their activity and may often undergo genetic changes. The classic "gene for gene" theory explains the relationship between host plant cultivars and fungal pathogenic races.

Producers of dragon fruit in Vietnam have seen prices for their fruit decline by about 60% since 2000 which can be attributed, in part, to their dependence on local and nearby exports. There are about 10 major exporters in Vietnam but a significant portion of the total production is sourced from many small-holder growers. During the previous dragon fruit GAP project 037/04VIE, growers were evaluated through a benchmarking study to determine the status of the dragon fruit producers against the standards required by high value export markets....

Research intensity1 in Vietnam is less than 0.2% which is lower that most developing countries of 0.5% and much lower than developed country average of 1.5%. GoV has targeted a 12% increase of central government funding levels from 2006 – 2011 and to date total funding increases in agricultural research funding have exceeded that level. The primary objective behind Research & Development (R&D2) priority assessment is to determine the broad research programmes that will provide Vietnam with the greatest return on investment in R & D provided by government and other major stakeholders. Priority setting is the central issue of research and extension management. It is a complex task. It must be done in a systematic framework able to allow the results to support open and robust decision-making about research and extension resource allocation and management.

In Mekong delta, mangrove forest distributes along the coastline of 700 km and it is a homeland for mud crab in tropical areas. The mud crab becomes potential to be alternative species from failed shrimp farming. Particularly, mud crab hatchery has been introduced and operated recently at Bac lieu, Tra vinh, Soc Trang, Ben Tre, Kien giang and Ca mau provinces. However, the survival from zoea stage to crablet stage 1 is low at approximately 5%. In addition, like shrimp rearing, the mud crab hatchery is using antibiotic as major treatment to prevent bacteria and fungi.
