Vitamin C plays an essential role in pharmaceutical industry. In general, the solubility of this vitamin in different environments is an important factor for drug development processes. Indeed, solid-liquid equilibrium (SLE) determination of the interested compound in various solvents needs high-precision determination which, however, frequently consumes a lot of time and labor work.

In this study, the effect of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) content, i.e. from 2 to 6% by vol. of concrete, on the flexural behavior of ECC with a desired compressive strength of over 60 MPa, in which fly ash and silica fume were selected as supplementary cementitious materials. The experimental results show that the addition of PVA fiber gives little influence on compressive strength but can significantly affect the flexural behavior of ECC.

The palladium-catalyzed reaction between isomeric cyclododec-2-en-1-yl acetates and primary aliphatic alcohols was found to result in high yields of the reaction products obtained. The selectivity with respect to cyclododec-2- en-1-yl ethers formed as reaction products ranged from 73% to 93%. The kinetics of the reaction of acetoxycyclododec-2- enes with alcohols was studied within the temperature range of 328–358 K. A kinetic equation best fitting the experimental data was provided.

The strain Saccharomyces cerevisiae Bordeaux synthesized the most total aldehydes at a temperature of 24оС, while Saccharomyces cerevisiae 8-11 - at 28оС. Acetaldehyde, acetone and 2-butanone were identified in the experimental wines by gas chromatographic analysis. During the fermentation at a temperature of 20°C and 24°C, Saccharomyces cerevisiae Bordeaux produced more acetaldehyde, acetone and 2-butanone compared to 8-11. At 28°C Saccharomyces cerevisiae 8-11 produced more acetaldehyde and 2-butanone, 33.

The kinetics and mechanism of silver(I)-catalyzed oxidation of allyl alcohol with peroxodiphosphate in acetate buffers have been studied. The rate is independent of allyl alcohol concentration. The effect of other reaction parameters such as hydrogen and acetate ions has also been studied. The rate law accounting for all experimental observations corresponds to the proposed mechanism. The energy and entropy of activation have also been evaluated by employing Eyring plots.

The experimental data were compared with the theoretical results obtained by the quantum chemical calculations of the DFT/B3LYP method with LANL2DZ basis set. A detailed interpretation of the FT-IR spectra of the studied compounds was performed based on the total energy distribution. In order to investigate the electronic structures and the UV-Vis spectrum of complex 5, time-dependent density functional theory calculation was taken into account.

An efficient and facile method has been developed for the synthesis of alkyl bromides from various alcohols under mild conditions using a triphenylphosphine (PPh3)/1,2-dibromotetrachloroethane (DBTCE) complex in excellent yields and very short time (5 min). This method can also be applied for the transformation of chiral alcohols to their corresponding bromides in very high enantiomeric excess. The PPh3 /DBTCE complex is also successfully applied to ring-opening reactions of cyclic ethers in mild conditions.

The animals were divided into four dietary groups during the two months of experimentation: group I (control (-cDDGS+rapeseed oil)), group II (+cDDGS+rapeseed oil), group III (+cDDGS+beef tallow), and group IV (+cDDGS+coconut oil). The aim of the present experiment was to evaluate changes in the backfat transcriptome of pigs fed isoenergetic diets that differed in cDDGS presence.

A laboratory experiment was conducted at Microbiology Lab (AICRP-WC), University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during 2012-13 in order to prepare sugarbeet wine from different varieties of Tropical Sugarbeet (TSB). Four TSB varieties were selected viz. Magnolia, PAC 60008, Calixta and SZ 35 for wine preparation. In the first four treatments, the sugarbeet juice was obtained and directly assembled for fermentation without any TSS adjustment (T1 to T4). The obtained juice TSS was adjusted to 23 0 brix in the next four set of treatments (T5 to T8).

Chagas disease, which is caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, is a major health problem in Latin America, and there are currently no drugs for the effective treatment of this disease. The energy metabolism of T. cruzi is an attractive target for drug design, and we previously reported that inhibitors of α-hydroxy acid dehydrogenase (HADH)-isozyme II exhibit trypanocidal activity.

The association between uric acid (UA) on one side and systemic hypertension (Htn), dyslipidemia, glucose intolerance, overweight, fatty liver, renal disease and cardiovascular disease (CVD) on the other side is well recognized. However, the causal relationship between UA and these different clinical problems is still debatable. The recent years have witnessed hundreds of experimental and clinical trials that favored the opinion that UA is a probable player in the pathogenesis of these disease entities.
