Aloe vera gel coatings
-
The main objective of this study was to see the effect of natural Aloe vera gel coating, and combined with citric acid treatments on shelf life and quality of mango during storage. Mango fruit is very perishable in nature and considerable postharvest quality defect is occurred during and after harvest.

Anthracnose is the most prevalent and devastating fungal disease both before and after harvesting of mango worldwide. The anthracnose pathogen infects fruit in the field and remains quiescent until the fruit is harvested and starts to ripen. This is the major constraint in the commercialization of fresh mango.

This study showed that the AV gel could be suitable for producing an edible film and coating with good physical characteristics such as low WVP (0.0037g/m2 .h.mmHg). AV's low WVP appeared to have a great impact on maintaining post-harvest quality especially reducing the percentage of weight loss of coated fruit during storage.

The present research study focuses on organic edible coatings such as chitosan (1%), aloe vera gel (100%), honey (10%) as an substitute for chemical based coatings showed promising results in extending shelf life of ready-to-eat arils of pomegranate cv. Bhagwa packed in clamshells. Chitosan (1%) treated pomegranate arils packed in clamshells and stored at cold temperature of 4±1ºC was found to be promising to maintain several quality parameters such as total anthocyanins (25.38 mg 100 g-1 ), β– carotene content (25.

The present study on pomegranate aril coating with Aloe vera gel at different concentrations was carried out at the Postharvest Technology Laboratory, College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh during the year 2015-16. The experiment was laid out in a completely randomized design with three replications with the main objective of reducing the browning of arils by application of Aloe vera gel.

In present study “Effect of Aloe Vera coating on the Quality of indo pacific-king mackerel fish Chunks during Chilled Storage”Indo pacificking mackerel fish chunks were dipped in aqueous solution containing 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% Aloe vera Gel before chilled storage for 8 Days. Their physical (color and drip loss), biochemical (peroxide value), chemical (moisture) and organoleptic characters (textural) were analyzed. Both control and Treated Fish chunks samples were analyzed periodically.

Edible films and coating are being widely studied as they have the potential to preserve the fresh produce, and are biodegradable. Taking this into account the aim of this study was to develop and evaluate the film properties such as thickness, percentage transmittance, mechanical properties such as percentage elongation and tensile strength, and sealability of the nanocomposite edible films based on aloe vera gel, glycerol and nanoparticles solution. After this all the film formulations were applied as a coating of Mango (Mangifera indica L.) and stored for 9 days at room temperature.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of Aloe vera gel coating on postharvest quality of honeydew melon cv. Ngan Huy under atmospheric conditions. The fresh fruits were completely immersed into Aloe vera gel solutions at different concentrations of 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, and 70% at room temperature for 5 minutes. Tween 80 0.05%, CMC 1%, and glycerol 2% were added in the coating solutions.
