In study "Impact of urbanization on seawater quality in Quang Ninh province" the authors use indicators to assess the level of water pollution, such as chemical and microbial pollution and measure the impact of urban factors, such as population growth, wastewater discharge and water consumption. In the survey results of seawater quality in two seasons, the rainy season and the dry season, there is a difference in some specific hydrological indicators, such as Coliform exceeding the allowable threshold in the dry season and iron and ammonium content tending to increase.

Blast-furnace slag (BFS) is enormously generated each year and has been considered as hazardous solid waste which is posing a significant pressure on waste treatment in terms of storage and transportation. This study aims to recycle BFS as a material for ammonium adsorption from an aqueous solution.

This study conducted an assessment of the effect of alkalinity on the partial nitrification (PN) process and the performance of a partial nitrification - denitrification (PN - DN) system applied in swine wastewater treatment (SWW). The system consisted of a batch-operated PN reactor and a continuously operated DN reactor and was divided into two main experiments.

Nitrogen removal with biological methods plays a crucial role in wastewater treatment technology. The treatment begins with the oxidation of ammonia to nitrite to facilitate the subsequent nitrification and denitrification. Various strains of ammonia-oxidising bacteria have been reported. In this study, we use three Bacillus bacteria isolated from swine wastewater to oxidise ammonia.

Municipal wastewater treatment plants generally utilise biological activated sludge processes to remove organic compounds and nitrogen. The biological nitrogen removal (BNR) occurs in two steps, nitrification (ammonium removal) and denitrification (nitrates removal). This study focused on a medium-sized wastewater treatment plant (WTP) which experienced poor nitrification for years, mainly when the weather temperature drops.

Anaerobic ammonium oxidizing bacteria (anammox bacteria) are contributing significantly to the nitrogen cycle and are successfully used in wastewater treatment. Due to the lack of complete genomes in the databases, little is known about the stability and variability of their genomes and how the genomes evolve in response to changing environments.

This study, therefore, aimed to investigate the application of biochar from agricultural wastes to remove the excess nitrogen in domestic wastewater. In particular, this work examined the utilization of biochar obtained from coffee husk pyrolyzed at 350 oC to adsorb ammonium. Besides, adding biochar could be a simple and effective method for the initiation of activated sludge granulation to facilitate the treatment of low C/N ratio wastewater.

In this study, a continuous ammonium stripping lab-scale model of anaerobic co-digestion effluent from an organic fraction of food waste and domestic wastewater was used to investigate ammonium removal efficiency by air stripping. The effect of initial pH, liquid flow rate, and air-to-liquid ratio on the removal of ammonium from the effluent were examined in experiments.

The extensive use of fascinating colorful dyes during textile manufacturing indirectly causes severe environmental problem. These dyes exert toxic effects on terrestrial and aquatic life forms, imparting photosynthesis and other metabolic processes. Color is an escalating problem in industrial wastewater. Hence, there is a pressing need to eradicate this contaminant for a sustainable environment. This investigation was directed to isolate and characterized potential bacteria which can efficiently decolorize common recalcitrant textile dye Yellow CRG.

This study aimed to evaluate the ability of magnesium chloride modified carbonized rice hull (MCRH) material for ammonium removal from synthetic and domestic wastewater. The MCRH material was prepared by using waste rice hull from a household rice-processing factory and magnesium chloride salt via a simple mixing and annealing method. The material was then characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.

Spirulina is noticed for great applications on food supplements, animal feeds, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, biofuel, fertilizer, etc. Spirulina cultures in wastewaters could enhance the feasibility of commodities due to its ability to reduce the cost of biomass production and remove pollutants in wastewaters. This study investigates the effects of wastewater pretreatment using various aeration periods (i.e. from 3 to 7 days), the supplement of bicarbonate and N:P ratios on the growth of Spirulina sp. to produce protein-rich biomass. The work showed that Spirulina sp.

Slaughterhouse wastewater (SWW) possesses very high organic and nutrient concentrations and its residues are moderately solubilized, which leads to pollution affecting the environment and human health. The objective of this study was to investigate the effective removal of ammonium in slaughter wastewater by up flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) technology combined with an expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) using anammox and PVA gel as the biomass carrier. Ammonium loading rates (NLRs) increased from 0.25 kg N-NH4 + /m3 .d to 0.75 kg N-NH4 + /m3 .
