In this study, anticholinergic, antidiabetic, antioxidant and cytotoxic activities of Reseda lutea L. (R. lutea) were determined. Ethanol extracts of R. lutea (EERL) and water extract of R. lutea (WERL) were prepared for biochemical analysis. The antioxidant capacities of EERL and WERL were evaluated with 6 different methods. In addition, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), α-amylase and α-glycosidase enzyme inhibition by EERL were measured.

Retrograded starch is known to be resistant to digestion. We used enzyme kinetic experiments to examine how retrogradation of starch affects amylolysis catalysed by porcine pancreatic amylase. Parallel studies employing differential scanning calorimetry, infra red spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and NMR spectroscopy were performed to monitor changes in supramolecular structure of gelatinised starch as it becomes retrograded.

In this study, hydroxy benzoin (1-7), benzil (8-14), and benzoin/benzil-O-β-D-glucosides (15-25) were synthesized to investigate their biological activities. An efficient method for synthesizing hydroxy benzoin compounds (1-7) was prepared from four different benzaldehydes using an ultrasonic bath. Then, antioxidant (FRAP, CUPRAC, and DPPH), antimicrobial (3 Gram (-), 4/6 Gram (+), one tuberculosis and one fungus), and enzyme inhibition (acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholine esterase, tyrosinase, α-amylase, and α- glucosidase) for the all synthesized compounds (1-25) were evaluated.

Crateva adansonii is a plant species belonging to the family; Capparaceae, with multiple therapeutic uses in the traditional settings, including diabetes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antiradical and anti-hyperglycaemic properties of the aqueous extract of the bark of the trunk of Crateva adansonii. The anti-hyperglycaemic properties of the extract was evaluated by the inhibition test of α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes in vitro confirmed by an in vivo study, on starch and sucrose tolerance tests using acarbose as witness.

The effect of elevated concentrations of mercury on seed germination and seedlings growth responses of three Brassica juncea L. cultivars, namely Varuna, Kranti, and Pusa Jai Kisan. was evaluated. The mercury concentrations (0, 25, 50, 100, 200 µM) suppressed seed germination significantly in concentration dependent manner and differentially among the cultivars. The inhibition due to Hg was much greater after one day of treatment with lowest suppression in cv. Varuna than others.

Diabetes is a common metabolic disorder characterized by abnormally increased plasma glucose levels. Postprandial hyperglycemia plays an essential role in development of type 2 diabetes. Inhibitors of carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes such as α-amylase retard the liberation of glucose from dietary complex carbohydrates and delay the absorption of glucose. The purpose of the study was to isolate and select α-amylase inhibitor-producing endophytic fungi from wellknown medicinal plants used in the treatment for diabetes and inhabiting in Uzbekistan.

Immobilized polyextremophilic α-Amylase of Bacillus mycoides for citric acid production using starch
Immobilization is a wide spread technique in the last three decades. It is a powerful method which can improve properties of enzymes like stability, activity, resistance to inhibition due to the by-products in fermentation and its quick recovery. In the present investigation a halophilic organism Bacillus mycoides producing α-amylase was isolated from saline water. A mixed fermenter system was made for citric acid production using starch.

Carbon and nitrogen sources were selected to create a new modified Chapek-Doks nutrient medium in order to increase the production of secondary metabolites, that inhibit pancreatic α-amylase, by endophytic fungi Penicilliumbrevicaule alba-CC200 and Aspergillus egypticus-HT166. The results showed that the highest α-amylase inhibitory activity - 96.8% and 88%, respectively, was observed during the shake flask cultivation of strains at the end of the stationary phase on a medium containing casein supplemented by yeast extract.

Apple pomace powder was analyzed for its functional properties which showed water holding capacity and fat absorption capacity of 3.39 g/g and 0.97 ml/g, respectively. Foam of apple pomace powder was not stable. Hypoglycemic potential of dietary fibers in managing diabetes is very well documented. In present study, the effect of apple pomace powder on α–amylase, glucose diffusion and glucose adsorption were studied by using in vitro studies.
