  • The paper presents the physical properties of freshly harvested and dried black pepper (Piper nigrum). The physical properties of black pepper in the moisture range of 81.3 - 8.65 % (w.b.) were determined. The length, breadth, thickness, sphericity, thousand capsule mass, porosity, true density and angle of repose were investigated and was found to increase with increase in moisture content whereas bulk density and hardness decreased with the increase of moisture content.

To evaluate the milling characteristics of 10 different paddy genotypes were taken.   • Various engineering properties of rice husk, rice straw, sugarcane bagasse and cotton stalk were estimated. Experiment was performed at SPRERI (Sardar Patel Renewable Energy Research Institute), Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat.   • The study was conducted to investigate some physical properties of soybean at various moisture levels. The dependence of physical properties of soybean on moisture content was determined. In the moisture range from 9.98- 27.10% (wb).The soaked soybean size increased linearly in length (6.34 - 8.95 mm), width (5.42 -6.50 mm), and thickness (4.23 - 5.35 mm) according to final moisture content.   • Ginger powder with high antioxidant activity, phenols, crude fibre and ash content was utilized for the preparation of ginger appetizing functional tablets. The flow properties of ginger powder categorized it good on the basis of carr compressibility (12.28%) and hausner ratio (1:1.14) and excellent (27o ) on the basis of angle of repose.   • The effects of micronization methods, mechanical and jet millings, on the physico-chemical properties of mushroom (Lentinus edodes) powder were investigated in contrast to shear pulverization. The powders of dried mushroom cap and stipe were prepared to obtain six powders. Compared to shear pulverization, mechanical and jet millings effectively reduced particle size and brought about a narrow and uniform particle size distribution.
