The results showed that with a larger value of pheromone, the chances of obtaining a good solution was found with only small penalty values. This study has proven that the hybrid ACO is able to solve NRPs with good potential solutions that satisfied all four important criteria: coverage, quality, flexibility, and cost.

This paper presents a hybrid method that combines the genetic algorithm (GA) and the ant colony system algorithm (ACS), namely GACS, to solve the traffic routing problem. In the proposed framework, we use the genetic algorithm to optimize the ACS parameters in order to attain the best trips and travelling time through several novel functions to help ants to update the global and local pheromones.

The paper discusses the application of hyper populated ant colonies to the well-known traveling salesman problem (TSP). The ant colony optimization (ACO) approach offers reasonably good quality solutions for the TSP, but it suffers from its inherent non-determinism and as a consequence the processing time is unpredictable. The paper tries to mitigate the problem by a substantial increase in the number of used ants.

This research proposes a hybrid approach by combining genetic algorithm (GA) and Continuous Ant Colony Optimization (CACO) to find optimum solutions, using a continuous ant colony algorithm as a mutation of genetic algorithm; the performance of the hybrid algorithm is illustrated using three test functions. The results show the efficiency and capabilities of the new hybrid algorithm in finding the optimum solutions.

Ants communicate information by leaving pheromone tracks. A moving ant leaves, in varying quantities, some pheromone on the ground to mark its way. While an isolated ant moves essentially at random, an ant encountering a previously laid trail is able to detect it and decide with high probability to follow it, thus reinforcing the track with its own pheromone.
