Anti-tumor role

Clear cell carcinoma of the kidney is a common urological malignancy characterized by poor patient prognosis and treatment outcomes. Modulation of vasculogenic mimicry in tumor cells alters the tumor microenvironment and the influx of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, and the combination of its inducers and immune checkpoint inhibitors plays a synergistic role in enhancing antitumor effects.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) play an important role in the tumor microenvironment. Despite the well-known in vitro antitumoral efect of vitamin D3 (VD3), its impact on breast CAFs is almost unknown. In this study, we analyzed the ex vivo effects of calcitriol on CAFs isolated from breast cancer tissues.

Ebook "Artemisinin and nitric oxide: Mechanisms and implications in disease and health" discusses both the beneficial and harmful aspects of NO in biology and medicine, and also introduces the emerging discovery of artemisinin in antitumor, antibacterial infection, anti-inflammation, and antiaging contexts. In 1992 nitric oxide (NO) was voted “Molecule of the Year” by Science magazine, and the discovery of its physiological roles has led to Nobel Prize-winning work in neuroscience, physiology and immunology.

The gut microbiome plays an important role in immune modulation. Specifically, presence or absence of certain gut bacterial taxa has been associated with better antitumor immune responses. Furthermore, in trials using fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) to treat melanoma patients unresponsive to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI), complete responses (CR), partial responses (PR), and durable stable disease (SD) have been observed.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of RGS1 in gastric cancer in vitro and in vivo. Proliferation, migration, invasion, and colony formation of NCIN87 cells and drug-resistant NCIN87 cells (NCIN87-DR) were determined. Cell apoptosis and cell cycle were examined using a flow cytometry assay. RGS1 gene knock-down vector (pLVshshRGS1) and Xenograft tumor mouse model was generated.

Regulatory T cells (Tregs) play an important role in the antitumor immune response in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). To understand the immune-inhibitory networks of EOC, we addressed the association between Tregs and immune checkpoint expression on T cells in the tumor microenvironment of EOC.

The prognosis of advanced laryngeal cancer is unfavorable despite advances in multidisciplinary therapy. Dendritic cells (DCs) play a central role in antitumor immunity. Tumor-infiltrating CD1a+ DCs have been reported to be associated with clinical outcomes in carcinomas of various organs, but the clinical impact of CD1a+ DCs in laryngeal cancer remains to be unequivocally established.

CD40 is an important tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) family protein for the development of antitumor response against cancer cells, apart from its role in the regulation of the immune system as a costimulatory molecule. It is broadly expressed on the surface of immune cells and in diverse cancer types, including breast cancer. Here, we analyzed both CD40/CD40 ligand expression in breast cancer cells and tissues using public data sets and overall survival analysis in ungrouped breast cancer patients, as well as in the triple-negative breast cancer subtype.

The lymph node metastasis is a key early step of the tumor metastatic process. VEGFD-mediated tumor lymphangiogenesis plays a key role, since down-regulation of p-VEGFR-3 could block the lymph node metastasis.

For facilitating theranostic nanoplatform with multimodal therapeutic ability, we develop the core-shell structured CDs@SiO2@TiO2 nanoplatforms (CST NPs). The designed CST NPs possess excellent photothermal effect and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) induced photodynamic property, which could achieve synergistic photothermal and photodynamic therapy. Meanwhile, the photothermal ability of CST NPs acts as a key role in the application of real-time photothermal imaging, benefitting for the diagnosis of tumor accurately.

Microorganisms produce various pigments like carotenoids, melanin’s, flavins, monascins, violacein and indigo. Carotenoids are a group of bioactive compounds and are responsible for bright yellow, orange, red pigments of various plants, microorganisms and animals and are widely distributed in nature. These pigments have an important function to act as protective agents against oxidative damage. Recently carotenoids have attracted greater attention due to the beneficial role on human health.

The major histocompatibility complex class I-related gene A (MICA) is an antigen induced by stress and performs an integral role in immune responses as an anti-infectious and antitumor agent. This work was designed to investigate whether (SNP) rs2596542C/T in MICA promoter region is predictive of liver cirrhosis (LC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or not. Forty-seven healthy controls and 94 HCVinfected patients, subdivided into 47 LC and 47 HCC subjects were enrolled in this study.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF) are a cellular compartment of the tumor microenvironment (TME) with critical roles in tumor development. Fibroblast activation protein-a (FAP) is one of the proteins expressed by CAF and its immunohistochemical detection in routine practice is associated with tumor aggressiveness and shorter patient survival. For these reasons, FAP seems a good prognostic marker in many malignant neoplasms, including renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The start point of this Perspective paper is to review the role of CAF in the modulation of renal cell carcinoma evolution.

The dimeric structure of seminal ribonuclease (BS-RNase) is maintained by noncovalent interactions and by two intersubunit disulfide bridges.Another unusual feature of this enzyme is its antitumour action, consisting in a cyto-toxic activity selective for malignant cells. This cytotoxic action is exerted when the protein reaches the cytosol of the affected cells, where it degrades ribosomal RNA, thus blocking protein synthesis and leading cells to death.

Báo cáo khoa học: The role of electrostatic interactions in the antitumor activity of dimeric RNases
The cytotoxic action of some ribonucleases homologous to bovine pancre-atic RNase A, the superfamily prototype, has interested and intrigued investigators. Their ribonucleolytic activity is essential for their cytotoxic action, and their target RNA is in the cytosol. It has been proposed that the cytosolic RNase inhibitor (cRI) plays a major role in determining the ability of an RNase to be cytotoxic.

Notwithstanding persistent press reports to the contrary, there is no evidence that the Spanish al Qaeda cell, led by Barkat Yarkas and including al Qaeda European financier Mohammed Galeb Kalaje Zouaydi, provided any funding to support 9/11 or the Hamburg plotters. Zouaydi may have provided funds to Mamoun Darkazanli, who knew the Hamburg plotters as a result of being a member of the Hamburg Muslim community, but there is no evidence that he provided money to the plot participants or that any of his funds were used to support the plot.

Changes in the pattern of DNA methylation are commonly seen in human tumors. Both genome wide hypomethylation (insufficient methylation) and region-specific hypermethylation (excessive methylation) have been suggested to play a role in carcinogenesis2. A common cause of the loss of tumor-suppressor miRNAs in cancer is the silencing of primary transcripts by CpG island promoter by hypermethylation3.
