The objective of this study was to investigate the beneficial, virulence, and antibiotic resistance-related genes in 10 well-characterized bacteriocinogenic LAB strains. The autoaggregation, co-aggregation, cell surface hydrophobicity, and bile salt tolerance were also evaluated to examine their potential as bacteriocinogenic probiotics and/or starter culture. Results showed that all tested strains showed abilities for auto-aggregation at 4oC and 37oC, co-aggregation with S. aureus JCM8704, S. typhimurium BIOTECH1826, and E. coli DH5α, and significant cell-surface hydrophobicity.

The isolates were checked for the probiotic properties such as antimicrobical production, pH & temperature tolerance, NaCl tolerance, cell adhesion, bile tolerance and cholesterol removal. Initially, twelve yeasts were isolated from each of the three different sources and characterization tests were performed.

Toxin-antitoxin (TA) systems, abundant in prokaryotes, are composed of a toxin gene and its cognate antitoxin. Several toxins are implied to affect the physiological state and stress tolerance of bacteria in a population.

The aim of this study is to determine the antimicrobial resistance profile patterns to 15 antibiotics and heavy metals (Zn+2, Cu+2 and Cd+2) by Pantoeaagglomerans bacteria. The (MIC) of the heavy metals was varied from 200 µg /mL to 2200 µg/mL. The results showed that the bacteria were resistant to Zn+2, Cu+2 and Cd+2, considering the MIC values compared with the strain Escherichia coli K-12 used as control. P.

Probiotic bacteria can be used as a therapeutic strategy to ameliorate human diseases. This has led to the increase in the use of probiotics as functional foods. Lactic acid bacteria are one of the major strains to be used as probiotics. Therefore, the present study was aimed at isolating, identifying and characterizing lactobacilli from fermented food sources viz. curd and idli batter in terms of their suitability as probiotics as well as antibiotic sensitivity.

The aim of the present study was to access probiotic attributes such as antimicrobial activity, acid and bile tolerance, auto aggregation capacity, hydrophobicity assay and antibiotic susceptibility of two screened potential lactic acid bacterial strains from a novel traditional fermented product (viz. Luske, prepared using fermented lassi) Solan District of Himachal Pradesh. Six isolates were isolated from the traditional fermented foods of a Trans Himalayan state of India and were subjected to biochemical characterization.

Deep sequencing of transposon mutant libraries (or TnSeq) is a powerful method for probing essentiality of genomic loci under different environmental conditions. Various analytical methods have been described for identifying conditionally essential genes whose tolerance for insertions varies between two conditions.

This article presents a study of the bacteria bioremediation characters and their heavy metal and antibiotic tolerance from the petroleum contaminated soil located in industrialized areas of Chhattisgarh, India. Soil sediments were characterized by FTIR for the presence of aromatic compounds and further the heterotrophic and fuel degrader counts was estimated. The strains characterized were predominantly from the Bacillus species which showed mixed resistance patterns against antibiotics and heavy metals.

A wide range of microorganisms present in industrial effluent, exposed to different heavy metals, develop tolerance to such metal. Adaptation to the adverse environmental condition make them resistant to different antibiotics and various characters exhibited by them need to be explored. Twenty numbers of bacteria isolated from the effluent of a steel plant showed tolerance to heavy metals like Ni, Cr, Cd, Pb, and Hg and resistance to different antibiotics.

A study was carried out in the Department of Soil Science, DRPCAU, Pusa, Bihar during 2014-15 to evaluate physiological properties of Rhizobium isolated from winged bean, pea, gram, lentil and moong. Production of indole acetic acid (IAA), resistance to antibiotics and tolerance to variable pH are some important key concerns for its adaptability to various soil conditions as inoculants. Rhizobia, in general, followed a similar trend towards pH tolerance in terms of growth (measured as OD) i.e., their growth was higher around neutral pH.

Fluorescent pseudomonad bacteria, a major constituent of Rhizobacteria, enhance the plant growth through diverse mechanisms. The association between plant and fluorescent pseudomonad bacteria contributes to the successful thriving of plants in extreme environments featured by moisture stress. The enzyme has been noticed in a few numbers of bacteria and which helps the plant growth and development during biotic and abiotic stress situations with the depletion of stress levels of ethylene production in plant system.

Heavy metals are hazardous to living things and causes deterioration of the environment. Nowadays, contamination of heavy metals in the soil and water has gradually increased by human activities. This study analyzed soils from two industrial sites in Myanmar and lead tolerant soil bacteria, E.coil and Alcaligenes sp. were isolated, and characterized. MIC value of lead for Alcaligenes sp. was 13 mM and for E. coil isolates was 10 mM, respectively.

The present study explored the traditional Indian fermented food samples for potential probiotic strains with superior probiotic properties to that of commercially available strain. A total of 102 food samples were collected aseptically and 200 isolates were purified using MRS media. 132 were identified as Gram-positive bacteria and 43 were identified as yeast cultures. On the basis of morphological and biochemical properties, 120 isolates were provisionally identified as Lactobacillus spp.

A phenotypic characterization of thirteen root nodule bacteria recovered from wild legumes (Genista microcephala and Argyrolobium uniflorum) growing in arid eco-climate zones (Northeastern Algeria) was conducted using analysis of sixty-six phenotypic traits (carbohydrate and nitrogen assimilation, vitamin requirements, growth temperature, salinity/pH tolerance and enzyme production). Furthermore, SDS-PAGE profiles of total cell protein, antibiotic susceptibility and heavy metal resistance were performed.

The negative health impact of many large-scale public health emergencies, such as an intentional anthrax release, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), or the recent 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic, can be mitigated significantly by medical countermeasures such as antimicrobials, antivirals, and vaccines. To be effective, these countermeasures generally must be delivered in very large quantities in a short period of time.
