TREM2 is a transmembrane receptor expressed by myeloid cells and acts to regulate their immune response. TREM2 governs the response of microglia to amyloid and tau pathologies in the Alzheimer’s disease (AD) brain. TREM2 is also present in a soluble form (sTREM2), and its CSF levels fuctuate as a function of AD progression.

As the main isoforms of membranous glucose transporters (GLUT), GLUT1 involves tumorigenesis, metastasis and prognosis in a variety of cancers. However, its role in breast cancer metastasis remains to be elucidated. Phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling pathway is essential for normal physiology and is impaired in diseases such as premalignant hyperproliferative disorders, primary immunodeficiency, metabolic disorders, and cancer. Although the core PI3K pathway components are known today, a long-standing gap in our knowledge of PI3K signaling concerns how distinct PI3K isoforms and their activity patterns contribute to the functional consequences of pathway upregulation.

In the presented research, we compared the in vitro protective effects of α-tocopherol and α-tocotrienol. In this context, we formed an in vitro neurodegeneration model with primary isolated neurons and measured α-tocopherol’s and α-tocotrienol’s protective effects. As a result, α-tocopherol and α-tocotrienol prevent the degeneration of neurons. Moreover, α-tocopherol and α-tocotrienol regulated the neuron’s calcium channels mechanism by decreasing the expression of the calcium channel alpha 1C subunit.

However, best practice for using existing quantification methods has not been established. We carry out a benchmark for five popular isoform quantification tools. Flowers of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) have been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine because of their ability to improve cerebral blood flow. The major active ingredients in safflower are flavonoids. To date, few flavonoid biosynthesis genes have been cloned from this species. In our previous research, four isoform chalcone isomerase genes were screened. In this study, a new chalcone isomerase gene (designated as CtCHI-N) was cloned from a safflower cDNA library. A 696-bp cDNA for CtCHI-N was cloned, and its sequence was subsequently analyzed.

The investigation of carbonic anhydrase and paraoxonase enzyme inhibition properties of water-soluble zinc and gallium phthalocyanine complexes (1 and 2) are reported for the first time. The binding of p-sulfonylphenoxy moieties to the phthalocyanine structure favors excellent solubilities in water, as well as providing an inhibition effect on carbonic anhydrase (CA) I and II isoenzymes and paraoxonase (PON1) enzyme. According to biological activity results, both complexes inhibited hCA I, hCA II, and PON1.
