The influence of porosity distribution pattern on the nonlinear buckling and postbuckling behavior of porous cylindrical shells subjected to axial compression are investigated by the analytical approach in this paper. The material properties are assumed to vary through the thickness of the shell. There are three porosity distribution pattern types are considered.

The linear buckling behavior of functionally graded toroidal shell segments with corrugated core under axial compression using the first-order shear deformation theory is presented in this paper. The homogeneous technique is applied for shear deformable corrugated core. Approximate analytical solutions are assumed to satisfy the simply supported boundary conditions and the adjacent equilibrium criterion is applied to obtain closed-form relations of buckling loads.

A semi-analytical approach of nonlinear dynamic buckling of functionally graded carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) cylindrical shells stiffened by the ring or stringer FG-CNTRC stiffeners by using the Donnell shell theory with the geometrical nonlinearities in von Kármán sense is reported in this paper. The improved smeared stiffener technique is applied for FG-CNTRC stiffeners.

An analytical approach of nonlinear buckling and postbuckling analysis of core-corrugated functionally graded carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (FG- CNTRC) cylindrical panels under axial compression is presented in the present study. A homogenization technique is applied for the corrugated core with thermal effects. The nonlinear stability equation system of panels is formulated by using the Donnell thin shell theory with the von Kármán geometrical nonlinearities.

In the design of engineering structures, concrete is assumed to have homogeneously mechanical properties. However, in reality, the concrete material is usually not uniform with respect to the height of structures because segregation mostly occurs during construction. The higher density is presented at, the lower part of the structure due to a higher proportion of aggregate and vice versa.

This paper presents a new technique to design RC columns of the rectangular section, subjected to axial compression and uni- or biaxial bending. Distributed bars around the perimeter are considered as an equivalent thin tube. Using the same steel area for two separate couples of axial compression and uniaxial bending is a trick to solve the equilibrium equations for the optimum steel ratio between faces b and h.

One RC column without being strengthened is referred as the control specimen whereas two other RC columns were partially strengthened by CFRP sheets. All three RC columns were axially loaded with the same initial eccentricity e0 of 80 mm. Based on the test results such as the ultimate load-carrying capacity, the load-rotation relationship, and load-curvature at the middle of column height, the effectiveness of the strengthening technique is discussed.

This study presents a unified approach to simulate the behavior of rectangular concrete-filled steel stub columns incorporating high strength and ultra-high strength materials subjected to concentric axial compression. The finite element model is developed based on Abaqus software, which is capable of accounting for geometrical nonlinearity, material plasticity, and interaction between multi-physics.
