The study aimed to investigate the growth rate and the population size of the copepod Apocyclops dengizicus under different culture conditions of salinity, temperature, and diet. Five salinities, four levels of temperature, and four diet ratios of baker’s yeast and the microalgae were employed for a 20-day experiment.

β-D-glucans (beta-Glucan), a water-soluble polysaccharide with diversity physiological activities for applications in food and pharmaceutical industries. Methods: In this paper, we report the use of ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium chloride [BMIM]Cl on the extraction and isolation of β-glucan from baker's yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The β-D-glucans precipitated by adding water into the solution and obtained by filtration or centrifugation were pure, cleaned, and free of cell membranes.

This study analyzed Baker‟s yeast efficiency based upon its ability of growth on various agro-industrial wastes that act as the carbon source with an addition of nitrogen supplement at various growth parameters. Various locally available carbon sources including molasses, fruit bagasse juice, sugarcane bagasse juice and whey were used with inorganic as well as organic supplementation of corn steep liquor at a concentration of 50g/L. Increased productivity in case of the lab isolate was observed upon the use of organic supplementation @16.16%.

Nine experimental dietary formulations (T1-T9) were prepared which composed of rice, wheat, sorghum, rice + groundnut, wheat + groundnut, sorghum + groundnut, rice + sesamum, wheat + sesamum and sorghum + sesamum as base diet to rear and maintain the rice moth, Corcyra cephalonica under laboratory conditions. All the diets were fortified with baker’s yeast @ 5 g, wettable sulphur @ 5 g, and Streptomycin sulphate @ 50 mg.

β-Glucan is a natural polymer, which is widely studied due to its multiple immunomodulatory properties. In addition, recent findings indicate potent antitumor properties of β-glucan. Saccharomyces cerevisiae, baker’s yeast, is one of the commonly used sources of β-1,3-glucan. The aim of this work was to investigate S. cerevisiae β-glucan immunomodulatory activity against cancer cells.

The growth of baker's yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae in medium containing sucrose requires a high level of extracellular invertase enzyme activity. We also found that industrial yeast strains are more sensitive to hyperosmotic stress than the laboratory strains of S. cerevisiae used in this study.

Waste baker’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) was used as a biosorbent for Cu+2 biosorption. The yeast cells were treated with caustic soda, ethanol and heat to increase their biosorption capacity. Among the treatment methods used, the highest copper uptake (21.1 mg g-1) was obtained with the caustic treatment of baker’s yeast.

We present an approach using syntactosemantic rules for the extraction of relational information from biomedical abstracts. The results show that by overcoming the hurdle of technical terminology, high precision results can be achieved. From abstracts related to baker’s yeast, we manage to extract a regulatory network comprised of 441 pairwise relations from 58,664 abstracts with an accuracy of 83–90%. To achieve this, we made use of a resource of gene/protein names considerably larger than those used in most other biology related information extraction approaches. ...

Transketolase from baker’s yeast is a thiamin diphosphate-dependent enzyme in sugar metabolism that reconstitutes with various analogues of the coenzyme. The methylated analogues (4¢-methylamino-thiamin diphos-phate and N1¢-methylated thiamin diphosphate) of the native cofactor were used to investigate the function of the aminopyrimidine moiety of the coen-zyme in transketolase catalysis.

Cells must be able to process multiple information in parallel and, more-over, they must also be able to combine this information in order to trigger the appropriate response. This is achieved by wiring signalling pathways such that they can interact with each other, a phenomenon often called crosstalk.

Time-dependent regulation analysis is a new methodology that allows us to unravel, both quantitatively and dynamically, how and when functional changes in the cell are brought about by the interplay of gene expression and metabolism. In this first experimental implementation, we dissect the initial and late response of baker’s yeast upon a switch from glucose-lim-ited growth to nitrogen starvation.

Transgenic Mice as Models of Genetic Disease Several organisms have been studied extensively as genetic models, including Mus musculus (mouse), Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly), Caenorhabditis elegans (nematode), Saccharomyces cerevisiae (baker's yeast), and Escherichia coli (colonic bacterium). The ability to use these evolutionarily distant organisms as genetic models that are relevant to human physiology reflects a surprising conservation of genetic pathways and gene function.
