  • The starch content and pectin content reached a maximum when the fruit was 14 weeks old and then gradually decreased. The tannin content decreased from fruit formation until fruit ripening. Through the research process, we found that banana achieves the best quality to harvest when fruits are 18 weeks old. The results of this study provide important data for the harvesting and storage of banana fruit.

  • In order to extend the shelf life of banana cultivar Tella Chakkerakeli was fumigated with 1-methylcyclopropane (1-MCP) at four different concentrations (100, 200, 300 and 400 ppb) @ 24h exposed time and stored at ambient conditions. Among all the treatments, 400 ppb was found to be an effective in extending shelf-life, highest retention of cell wall degrading enzyme such as pectin methylestarase and antioxidant enzymes, peroxidase and catalase. The entire 1-MCP treated banana showed better results over control (kept at open air @ 24h).

Among all the treatments, 400 ppb was found to be an effective in extending shelf-life with recorded minimum ethylene evolution rate (0.440 µl kg-1 hr-1 ), physiological loss in weight (4.739%), pulp to peel ratio and maximum fruit firmness retention (9.665 kgcm-2 ). The entire 1-MCP treated banana showed better results over control (kept at open air @ 24h).

  • Banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) as famous tropical fruit around the world. The one important and destructive disease of banana is Fusarium wilt caused Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense (Foc). Foc as soil-borne pathogens and movement of pathogen through the rhizome and water, capable survive in waste crops at the field. The purpose research is to study physiological character of Bacillus sp. such as : ability of bacteria produced IAA (Indole Acetic Acid), gibberelin (GA3), ability phosphate solubilizing and produce salicylic acid as biological control against Foc.

  • Present investigation emphasizes on isolation and identification of soil fungi of banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) fields from Baramati area of Pune district of Maharashtra. The isolation of soil fungi was done by using serial dilution method and Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) medium. Morphological characters of fungi were used for their identification. Total 22 fungal species were recorded throughout the study. The contribution of Deuteromycotina was 63.63% followed by Zygomycotina 18.18%, Ascomycotina 13.63% and Mastigomycotina 4.54%.
