  • The paper provides a pathloss and channel model in a smart surface-assisted communication system built based on physical-optical techniques and Snell’s light reflection theorem. With mathematical expressions, it will provide researchers with a way to calculate, simulate, analyze, evaluate and calibrate communication channels to achieve optimal efficiency before deploying experimental fabrication. or for comparison with other information transfer enhancement technologies such as AF relay and amplifier, MIMO beamforming, and BackCom backscatter communication.

  • This paper proposes an efficient beamformer based on the binary bat algorithm for uniform rectangular arrays of half-wavelength dipoles. The proposed beamformer utilizes the technique of controlling only the amplitude of excitation weights to produce optimal patterns with minimal distortions in sidelobe regions while maintaining the main beam and imposing nulls in the directions of interfering signals.

  • Nonconvex SINR constraints in amplify-and-forward (AF) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relay beamforming problems make the design mathematically intractable. A more practical optimization is to maximize the minimum SINR achievable data rate among all the users. The previously existing methods invoke the vectorization of pre-coding matrix X and then introduce the auxiliary variable matrix of lager dimension which results in an increased computational complexity.

  • Mm-wave is currently of interest due to its ability to enhance large bandwidth, which can fully meet the speed of 5G information systems. The beamforming techniques are studied for this wave such as beam weights updating at the receiver to ensure the fastest convergence rate of the weighting algorithm. We need to specify algorithms such as mean least squares (LMS), recursive least squares (RLS), sampling matrix inverse (SMI), conjugate gradient methods (CGM). There are many articles related to the comparison of these algorithms on convergence weighting speed, transmission capacity.

  • This article investigates digital predistortion (DPD) linearization of hybrid beamforming large-scale antenna transmitters. We propose a novel DPD processing and learning technique for an antenna sub-array, which utilizes a combined signal of the individual power amplifier (PA) outputs in conjunction with a decorrelation-based learning rule. In effect, the proposed approach results in minimizing the nonlinear distortions in the direction of the intended receiver. This feature is highly desirable, since emissions in other directions are naturally weak due to beamforming.

  • Hybrid analog and digital beamforming (HBF) has recently emerged as an attractive technique for millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication systems. It well balances the deman d for sufficient beamforming gains to overcome the propagatio n loss and the desire to reduce the hardware cost and power consumption. In this paper, the mean square error (MSE) is chosen as the performance metric to characterize the transmission reliability. Using the minimum sum-MSE criterion, we investigate the HBF design for broadband mmWave transmissions.

  • Multi-cell wireless systems usually suffer both intracell and inter-cell interference, which can be mitigated via coordinated multipoint (CoMP) techniques. Previous works on multi-cell analysis for the microwave band generally consider fully digital beamforming that requires a complete radio-frequency chain behind each antenna, which is less practical for millimeterwave (mmWave) systems where large amounts of antennas are necessary to provide sufficient beamforming gain and to enable transmission and reception of multiple data streams per user.

  • Beamforming is a signal processing technique. It has been studied in many areas such as radar, sonar, seismology and wireless communications, to name but a few. It can be used for a myriad of purposes, such as detecting the presence of a signal, estimating the direction of arrival, and enhancing a desired signal from its measurements corrupted by noise, competing sources and reverberation. Actually, Beamforming has been adopted by the audio research society, mostly to separate or extract speech for noisy environment.

  • Our objective is to enhance the secrecy performance of the secondary user (SU) in the presence of passive eavesdropper, whose channel state information (CSI) is unknown at the transmitter side. Two beamforming techniques are proposed; transmit beamforming (BF) and beamforming with jamming (BFJ). We investigate the impact of using artificial jamming (AJ) signal in improving the secrecy performance of the SU in underlay CRNs, where the AJ noise signal is used to confuse the eavesdropper’s channel.

  • This project explores the development of a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) simulator using ray tracing techniques. This project gives an overview of ray tracing techniques, beamforming, MIMO channel models and MIMO systems. It explains the ability of MIMO systems to offer significant capacity increases over traditional wireless systems, by exploiting the phenomenon of multipath. By modelling high frequency radio waves as travelling along localized linear trajectory paths, they can be approximated as rays, just as in optics....
