From propolis of Lepidotrigona ventralis stingless bee collected in Tuyen Quang province, eight compounds were isolated and determined as lantanolic acid, moronic acid, (+)-eudesmin, (+)-yangambin, (+)-syringaresinol, (+)-pinoresinol, dihydroconiferyl alcohol and vanillin using NMR and MS spectral data. Compounds 1 and 2 showed significant cytotoxicity against HepG-2 cancer cell line with IC50 values of 25.84±0.48 and 39.92±1.14 ug/mL, respectively.

The results showed that propolis extract was able to increase the number of fallen mites under field conditions but with lethal impacts on bee workers in the laboratory than extract of drone larvae or sugar syrup. All the treatments were not able to boost the grooming behavior of bees. The results proved that grooming behavior was stable during winter

A chemical study on the propolis of the stingless bee Lisotrigona cacciae collected from Hoa Binh province led to the isolation of four compounds including cycloartenol (1), cochinchinone A (2), α-mangostin (3), and isomangiferolic acid (4). Mangifera indica (Xoài) and Cratoxylum cochinchinense (Thành Ngạnh Nam) were suggested to be the resin sources of the propolis.

Propolis had been well documented in traditional medicine for treating systemic immune diseases, allergic diseases, viral diseases and organ-specific inflammatory diseases since more than one thousand years. During the last ten years, immunoregulatory and antiinflammatory properties of propolis have been published. The therapeutic characteristics of propolis have been well known for a very long time. It has been used in folk medicine for different nations as early in Egypt as 3000 BC. In recent years, propolis has become a subject of increasing interest for chemists and biologists.

Beekeeping is a forest and agro-based industry, which is beyond the ordinary realms of industry, in the sense that the humans derive benefits from interaction between two living things like plants and bees without affecting adversely both. On the contrary plants, including many crops, prosper with the abundance of bees (as pollinating agents) and the bees, sheltered both by nature and humans provide mainly honey and other by-products like beeswax, bee-pollen, propolis and royal jelly.

Cardol is a major bioactive constituent in the Trigona incisa propolis from Indonesia, with a strong in vitro antiproliferative activity against the SW620 colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line (IC50 of 4.51 ± 0.76 μg/mL). Cardol induced G0/G1 cell cycle arrest and apoptotic cell death.

The present study aimed at verifying the usefulness of dietary 2.5% bee-pollen (BP) or propolis (PROP) to overcome the genotoxic and endocrine disruptive effects of malathion polluted water in Oreochromis niloticus (O. niloticus). The acute toxicity test was conducted in O. niloticus in various concentrations (0–8 ppm); mortality rate was assessed daily for 96 h. The 96 h-LC50 was 5 ppm and therefore 1/5 of the median lethal concentration (1 ppm) was used for chronic toxicity assessment.
