Common buckwheat (2n = 2x = 16) is an outcrossing pseudocereal whose seeds contain abundant nutrients and potential antioxidants. As these beneficial compounds are damaged by preharvest sprouting (PHS) and PHS is likely to increase with global warming, it is important to find efficient ways to develop new PHS-tolerant lines.

The impact of Improved agricultural practice (IAP) with emphasis on soil analysis based organic manure and chemical fertilizer application, replacement of 25% chemical fertilizer with Bio-fertilizers and Integrated Pest Management, was studied for 3 successive years in 5 fields in Ricelentil – Okra cropping system in Gangetic Alluvial zones of West Bengal, India. IAP was seen to have significant beneficial effects on elevating soil organic carbon content and increase soil pH towards normality.

The agrinos high yield technology products are biostimulants which consist of naturally occurring beneficial microbes, L-amino acid complex and micronized chitin. The use of integrated biostimulants enhances the vitality of the agricultural biosphere and thus inturn enables increased crop productivity, improved efficiency of conventional fertilizer use and decreased environmental footprint.

This may be better preposition for reclamation of sodic soils. The use of lagoon sludge along with spent wash is also beneficial for reclamation of sodic verticals’ (Anonymous 2014-15). In view of above fact there is need of efficient, inexpensive and environmentally acceptable amendment for reclamation of alkali soils.

Nutritional knowledge for maintaining good health is necessarily required for the upliftment of country. Food products including cereal, pulses, fruits, vegetables, milk etc. contains high amount of protein, vitamins, minerals, calcium, carbohydrates, calories, dietary fibre and fats and have numerous therapeutic benefits. Due to their health beneficial properties they were incorporated with other ingredients or treated with processing technologies and turned into a new product and projected for estimation of moisture, protein, fat, carbohydrate, calcium and iron.

These beneficial compounds can be influenced by several key factors including environmental conditions (light, temperature, humidity, atmospheric CO2). Contrary to the conventional agricultural system, hydroponic relies on the manipulation of nutrients, which according to different authors allows having produces with high accumulation of some beneficial nutrients (Sgherri et al., 2010; Buchanan and Omaye, 2013) (Table 1).

Endophyte biology is an emerging field for practical use of beneficial microorganisms to control plant diseases and to sustain and assist crop production under non stress and stress conditions. Endophytes are microorganisms (fungi and bacteria) that colonize inside the plant tissues. The exact biological and biochemical roles of endophytes and their interactions with host plants in improving plant health and crop productivity is under investigation in many laboratories around the world.

This review is focuses on the anti-nutritional factors in plant metabolism and how they are beneficial to the plant defense system and harmful or beneficial to humans or animals and also how to reduce their quantity in materials. The anti-nutritional factors can be defined as those substances generated in natural food substances by the normal metabolism of species and by different mechanisms e.g. inactivation of some nutrients, diminution of the digestive process or metabolic utilization of feed, which exert effects contrary to optimum nutrition.

The organic matter is one of the important soil quality attribute can have beneficial effects on soil quality because organic matter is related to soil physico-chemical properties and availability of nutrients to crop. The present investigation was carried out during 2017-18 at research farm of Tirhut College of Agriculture, Dholi, Muzaffarpur to evaluate the effect of cropping system on soil properties and enzymatic activities in calcareous soils.

Burning of crop residues generates large amount of pollutants leads to the cardiorespiratory diseases. Also, it has negative impact on organic matter, nitrogen and other micro and macro soil nutrients. Soil incorporation of crop residues is one of the best alternatives to the crop residue burning. Sunflower, having most of the cultivable area in Karnataka and Maharashtra has proved to be very beneficial for the improvement of soil productivity.

Plant roots, soil and microbial interactions result in alteration of soil physical and chemical properties that in turn affect the micro-biological properties in the rhizosphere region. The growth and productivity of plant depends upon the diversity and composition of soil microflora present near rhizosphere zone. The aim of this study is to review the effect of organic, inorganic and integrated use of nutrients on soil properties under different land use systems in rhizospheric region.

Foliar fertilization is nutrition through leaves, is a very efficient technique of supplementary fertilization. Foliar nutrition is very important because foliar nutrients facilitate easy and quick consumption of nutrients by penetrating the stomata or leaf cuticle and enters the cells. Foliar fertilization is used as a means of supplying supplemental doses of macro and micro-nutrients, plant hormones, stimulants, and other beneficial substances. It is determined that during crop growth supplementary foliar fertilization increase plants mineral status and improve crop yields.

A field experiment was conducted in kharif 2011on blackgram genotype T-9. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replication and thirteen treatments. There was significant improvement recorded in yield, nutrient content, uptake and physico-chemical properties viz. pH, electrical conductivity, organic carbon and available N and P of soil under black gram crop. Grain yield was increased by 47.06% in treatment T13 over control while, organic carbon showed significantly highly positive correlation with available nitrogen (r=.878) in post harvest soil.

Among the crop residues used for preparation of compost, wheat straw (WS) + urea (1.5 - 4.5 per cent) + rock phosphate (RP) (6 - 12 per cent) + Sulphur (S) (1 to 3% through gypsum) and shredded cotton stalk (SCS) + urea (1.5 - 4.5%) + RP (6 – 12%) + S (1 to 3% through gypsum) were found equally beneficial in improving the quality of compost. The pH of compost rises initially and further drop at the maturity of compost.

Bio-fertilizer is a substance used to increase the fertility of the soil. It contains microorganisms which helps the soil to gain its nutrient back and make the soil available for cultivation. Bio-fertilizer doesn’t make any kind of pollution, so it is not a threat to use them in the place of the chemical fertilizers which causes a lot of pollution to the environment. Current soil management strategies are mainly dependent on inorganic chemical-based fertilizers, which caused a serious threat to human health and environment.

Role of vermicompost in nourishing agricultural crops has attracted the attention of researchers throughout the globe in past few decades. Vermicompost is the method of using earthworms to transform organic waste into nutrient rich compost. The earthworms’ casting is nutritive organic manure rich in humus, NPK, micronutrients, beneficial microbes, antibiotics, enzymes, growth hormones, etc. There are many reports in literature showing beneficial effects of imbedding vermicompost in soil.
