  • The study was conducted in Shorapur and Yadagir taluks of Yadagir district on impact of JG-11 bengal gram on farmers revealed that the practices namely foliar application of urea, use of growth promoter after 35 days (NAA) were followed by only 15.00% of farmers. Very few farmers followed fertilizer application as recommended. Higher average yield was obtained by farmers in Shorapur taluk with 10.50 q/ha followed by Yadgir farmers with 10.00 q/ha. In case of Annigeri-1 variety average yield of 8.00q/ha. was obtained by Yadgir farmers followed by 7.50 q/ha by Shorapur farmers.

  • The study was conducted in Shorapur and Yadagir taluks of Yadagir district on impact of JG-11 bengal gram on farmers revealed that majority of the JG-11 growers expressed that the characteristics namely; bold grains, higher flowering and seed setting, resistance to wilt, comes up well in dry land and high yielding capacity as positive ones. The major negative characters of JG-11 were single seed pod and shrivelled pods. The practices namely foliar application of urea, use of growth promoter after 35 days (NAA) was followed by only 15.00% of farmers.

  • The respiration rates of fresh Bengal gram kernels as a function of O2 and CO2 concentration at 300 C in closed system is studied on the basis of enzyme kinetics. Parameters of three types of Michaelis-Menten equation based on type of inhibition were considered. GraphPad PRISM software was used to find parameters of respiration rate of fresh Bengal gram kernels inform of Michaelis-Menten. The competitive type of inhibition was found as the best type for respiration rate of fresh Bengal gram kernels.

  • The study of sensory parameters for stored samples of Bengal gram, gram dhal and gram flour in different were observed at every interval of 30 days. Samples were kept in laminated LDPE bags under different packaging conditions i.e. vacuum packaging, modified atmosphere packaging and ambient conditions for 120 days. The effect of packaging on the sensory parameters of stored samples viz., colour, appearance, flavor, texture, taste and overall acceptability were found by 9 point Hedonic Scale.

When coating of chicken nuggets were done through enrobing batter gram flour or corn flour alone or its combination in the ratio 2:1 respectively, it further improved the sensory quality and overall acceptability of chicken nuggets.

  • The experiment was conducted in the ‘A-B’ Block Farm of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya situated at Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal during both summer and kharif seasons of 2016 with an objective to study the seasonal variation in incidence of insect pests on two varieties of black gram viz. Pant U-31 and Pant U-19 as well as their relationship with abiotic factors in the lower Gangetic plains of West Bengal. The results revealed Aphis craccivora, Bemisia tabaci, Megalurothrips distalis, Maruca vitrata, Helicoverpa armigera, Spilarctia obliqua as the major pests of the crop.

  • The present article analyses the nature of crop diversification in terms of the changes in cropping pattern with respect to acreage and production distribution. From both the aspects of area and production it is observed that over the time span of three decades the cropping pattern in West Bengal is increasingly dominated by boro paddy, oilseeds (including, rapeseed and mustard) and potato. Pulses, as a whole, have lost both in terms of acreage and production in West Bengal.

  • A study was undertaken to evaluate eight soil series belonging to Kabirabad 2 microwatershed in Bidar district in Northern Eastern Transition Zone of Karnataka State for sustainable land use planning. Seven soil series were tentatively identified and mapped into eight mapping units using GIS technique.   • Ready-to-Eat (RTE) snackfood was developed using corn (Zea mays), rice (Oryza sativa), Bengal gram dal (Cicer arietinum) and Goat offal meat powder with a laboratory model twin screw extruder. The extrudates were developed by conducting various blends (corn + rice+ bengal gram dal flour) in the ratio of T1 (40:40:20), T2 (50:40:10), T3 (60:30:10), T4 (50:30:20), T5 (40:50:10) and incorporating Goat offal meat powder viz., (1, 3, 5 & 7%) levels.   • Canine Monocytic Ehrlichiosis is a worldwide tick borne disease. In dogs, it is usually caused by Ehrlichia canis, gram-negative obligatory intracellular bacteria. Clinical signs, haemato-biochemical alterations and microscopical examination of blood smears were conducted in 60 different breeds of dogs of either sex presented to the Veterinary Clinical Complex, West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences, Kolkata between March and June 2019. The majority of dogs were presented with anorexia, pronounced lethargy, high rise of temperature and generalized lymphadenopathy.
