Colorectal cancer (CRC), ranking third in cancer prevalence and second in mortality worldwide, is mainly derived from colorectal adenoma (CRA). CRA is a common benign disease in the intestine with rapidly increasing incidence and malignant potential. Therefore, this study aimed to recognize significant biomarkers and original pathogenesis in CRA.

Various types of oral tumors, either benign or malignant, are commonly found in dogs. Since saliva directly contacts the tumors and saliva collection is non-invasive, easily accessible and cost effective, salivary biomarkers are practical to be used for the diagnosis and/or prognosis of these diseases.

Endobronchial ultrasound-guided trans-bronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is minimally invasive technique used for diagnosis and/or staging of benign and malignant pulmonary and non-pulmonary disease. Previous studies have established the utility of EBUS-TBNA in narrowly defined indications and populations.

Biliary obstruction is a serious clinical condition resulting from either benign or malignant etiologies. For malignant obstruction, curative resection is rarely performed due to disease progression, thus decompression drainage is the management of choice. Percutaneous transhepatic drainage and stenting are effective alternative treatments to surgical bypass and endoscopic biliary drainage when these two modalities are contraindicated.

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) which characterized by complex three-dimensional deformity of spine has been difficult to cure because of the unknown etiopathology and uncertainty of progression. Nowadays, circulating cell-free (ccf) DNA was found to be a potential biomarker for several benign and malignant diseases.

The papilloma viruses belong to the Papilloma viridae family and new genera were described on the basis of the interspecies phylogenetic similarity. They are DNA viruses that induce the formation of benign and malignant tumors in a vast range of hosts. The main objective of the present study was to detect PV DNA and papilloma virus-associated skin diseases in domestic and wild animals. This paper analyzed nucleotide sequence similarity of animal papilloma virus types to their closest related PV types and HPV sequences deposited in the Gen Bank.

Heterogeneous echogenicity of the thyroid gland has been associated with diffuse thyroid disease and benign and malignant nodules can coexist with diffuse thyroid disease. Underlying heterogeneous echogenicity might make it difficult to differentiate between benign and malignant nodules on US.

Mutations in the tumor suppressor gene von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) underlie a hereditary cancer syndrome—VHL disease—and are also frequently observed in sporadic renal cell carcinoma of the clear cell type (ccRCC). VHL disease is characterized by malignant and benign tumors in a few specific tissues, including ccRCC, hemangioblastoma and pheochromocytoma. The etiology of these tumors remains unresolved.

Infantile myofibromatosis belongs to a family of soft tissue tumors. The majority of these tumors have benign behavior but resistant and malignant courses are known, namely in tumors with visceral involvement. The standard of care is surgical resection. Observations suggest that low dose chemotherapy is beneficial. The treatment of resistant or relapsed patients with multifocal disease remains challenging.

Benign hyperplastic thymus is a rare but important differential diagnosis of anterior mediastinal lesions. Histological and radiological criteria are used to distinguish this benign condition from other malignant diseases but have their limitations, and biopsy of mediastinal masses can be risky.

The only hope for effective treatment of liver cancer lies in early detection or screening for populations who are at high risk for developing liver cancer. This study was designed to study the levels of a collection of biochemical markers in the sera of patients suffering from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its predisposing diseases. The ultimate aim is to investigate their diagnostic impact in the early detection of HCC and discriminate from benign liver diseases.
