To identify the pattern and etiology of diseases in children presented hepatomegaly at Pediatrics Department in Hue Central Hospital, Vietnam. Material and Methods: The Present study was conducted to evaluate the possible etiology and clinical features of children presented with hepatomegaly.

Cholangitis refers to an acute infection of the biliary tree, and has the potential to cause significant morbidity and mortality. It occurs secondary to stasis or obstruction of bile compounded by the presence of bacteria. Choledocholithiasis (stones in the common bile duct) has long been the most common cause of obstruction, however, strictures, tumors, or manipulation of the common bile duct may cause bile stasis, leading to the predisposition to bacterial infection of the biliary tree.

Palliation Surgery is employed in a number of ways for supportive care: insertion of central venous catheters, control of pleural and pericardial effusions and ascites, caval interruption for recurrent pulmonary emboli, stabilization of cancerweakened weight-bearing bones, and control of hemorrhage, among others. Surgical bypass of gastrointestinal, urinary tract, or biliary tree obstruction can alleviate symptoms and prolong survival. Surgical procedures may provide relief of otherwise intractable pain or reverse neurologic dysfunction (cord decompression).
