Klebsiella pneumoniae is a leading cause of bloodstream infection (BSI). Strains producing extendedspectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) or carbapenemases are considered global priority pathogens for which new treatment and prevention strategies are urgently required, due to severely limited therapeutic options.

Enterococcus faecium is a leading cause of hospital-acquired infection, particularly in the immunocompromised. Here, we use whole genome sequencing of E. faecium to study within-host evolution and the transition from gut carriage to invasive disease.

Bloodstream infections remain one of the major challenges in intensive care units, leading to sepsis or even septic shock in many cases. Due to the lack of timely diagnostic approaches with sufficient sensitivity, mortality rates of sepsis are still unacceptably high.

Escherichia coli is the leading cause of bloodstream infections, associated with a significant mortality. Recent genomic analyses revealed that few clonal lineages are involved in bloodstream infections and captured the emergence of some of them. However, data on within sequence type (ST) population genetic structure evolution are rare.

Candidemia is one of the most common nosocomial bloodstream infections in the United States, causing significant morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients, but the breadth of the host response to Candida infections in human patients remains poorly defined.

The incidence of Gram-negative bloodstream infections (BSIs), predominantly caused by Escherichia coli and Klebsiella species, continues to increase; however, the causes of this are unclear and effective interventions are therefore hard to design.

Extra-intestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC) are a leading cause of bloodstream and urinary tract infections worldwide. Over the last two decades, increased rates of antibiotic resistance in E. coli have been reported, further complicating treatment.

To evaluate the value of CTX-M on the clinical outcome of bloodstream infection (BSI) patients caused by E. coli and K. pneumoniae. Subject and method: A total of 165 BSI patients were treated at 108 Military Central Hospital from Oct. 2014 to May 2016, including 115 cases caused by E. coli and 50 cases caused by K. pneumoniae.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a threat to global health due to its resistance to β-lactam antibiotics and many other antibiotic classes developed via both intrinsic and acquired mechanisms. In this study, molecular characteristics related to antibiotic resistance of MRSA strain BM85 were investigated by whole-genome sequencing of a sample isolated from a patient with bloodstream infection at Bach Mai Hospital, Vietnam.

Brain abscess is a life-threatening event. Moreover, when Klebsiella pneumoniae is the cause, rapid diagnosis and appropriate treatment are required. Klebsiella invasive liver abscess syndrome, a bloodstream metastatic infection of potentially aggressive nature, has been recognized to cause infection in the central nervous system, and concern for Klebsiella liver abscess syndrome is increasing globally.

Mortality among critically ill patients with candidemia is very high. We sought to determine whether the choice of initial antifungal therapy is associated with survival among these patients, using need for mechanical ventilatory support as a marker of critical illness.

Current evidence regarding the efficacy of ethanol locks in preventing catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBI) is inconclusive. Methods: Electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Cochrane Library (until April 2018),were systematically searched for relevant studies.

Sepsis and other infectious complications are major causes of mortality and morbidity in patients after cardiac surgery. Whereas conventional blood culture (BC) suffers from low sensitivity as well as a reporting delay of approximately 48–72 h, real-time multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based technologies like “SeptiFast” (SF) might offer a fast and reliable alternative for detection of bloodstream infections (BSI).

The Gram-positive bacterium Enterococcus faecium is a commensal of the human gastrointestinal tract and a frequent cause of bloodstream infections in hospitalized patients. The mechanisms by which E. faecium can survive and grow in blood during an infection have not yet been characterized. Here, we identify genes that contribute to growth of E. faecium in human serum through transcriptome profiling (RNA-seq) and a highthroughput transposon mutant library sequencing approach (Tn-seq).

The objectives of this study were to identify the prevalence of aminoglycosides resistance among isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii complex causing BSIs, to assess the possible synergistic effect of aminoglycosides drugs combinations with imipenem and ciprofloxacin against resistant Acinetobacter baumannii complex strains and detection of AMEs and 16S rRNA methylase genes associated with aminoglycosides resistance in these isolates.

Fungal bloodstream infections (BSIs) are severe diseases that lengthen hospital stay, have elevated morbidity and mortality and increase medical care costs. Their incidence has recently increased, likely due to an increase in the number of susceptible hosts. The main aim of this study to characterization of candida isolated from blood from patient admitted in ICU. Our Objectives was to speciate candida isolated from the clinical sample & to do susceptibility testing of candida isolates using VITEK 2.

The aim of the work was to study the blood culture isolates and their antibiogram. A total of 1070 blood samples were collected from suspected cases of blood stream infection from August 2015 to July 2016, they were processed aerobically and Antibiogram pattern was studied. Cultures were positive in 277 (25.89%) cases.

Catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI) is defined as the presence of bacteraemia originating from an intravenous catheter. It is one of the most frequent, lethal, and costly complications of central venous catheterization and also the most common cause of nosocomial bacteraemia. Hence the present study was undertaken to find the incidence of catheter colonisation, catheter site (local) infection and CRBSI among patients with indwelling vascular catheters in a tertiary care hospital and determine their microbiological profile.
