Fatty liver haemorrhagic syndrome (FLHS) in poultry is a non-infectious metabolic disease of unknown aetiology. An outbreak of fatty liver haemorrhagic syndrome (FLHS) was detected at post mortem from 42-week old caged Vencobb broiler breeders in a commercial farm (n =1200) of Bankura, West Bengal, India. The affected flock was showing severe loss of production and sudden death in peak summer month of June with 4% mortality in a week. Post mortem of the dead birds were performed and bacteriological examination were done as per standard procedure.

Avian Mycoplasmosis is one of the most substantial global causes of economic losses to the poultry industry, particularly in chickens and turkeys. Present investigation was designed to detect Mycoplasma species from suspected broiler breeder/layer using genus specific Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Hundred specimens including 50 each of choanal swabs and tracheal swabs were collected from five layer/breeder poultry farms from different areas of Maharashtra State. The swabs were inoculated in Pleuropneumonia Like Organism (PPLO) broth for isolation of Mycoplasma organisms.

This category of pests is widespread and affects every stage of poultry production to a greater or lesser extent. The house fly (Musca domestica) and other fly species with similar biology and habits can generally be managed with minimal use of pesticides where appropriate cultural and biological control practices are most effective (broiler breeders and layers). Management of ectoparasites largely consists of whole flock treatments whenever infestations are detected by scouting birds and/or inspection of the structure and equipment (nest boxes, curtains, slats, cages). Broiler-breeder hens are first housed in open-floor environments or pens where they are reared to 20 to 22 weeks of age. The arrangement and management of these houses are similar to that described for broilers. Roosters are similarly housed until breeding age. The breeding flock (hens and roosters) is then transferred to production houses where hens begin to lay fertile eggs at about 24 weeks of age. The birds are held in production for an additional 36 to 44 weeks, at which time they are sold to the market.

The farmers get day old broiler from hatcheries. These hatcheries maintain their breeder farms, or in some cases, purchase their hatching eggs from breeder farms. These breeder farms depend on producers of parent stock. Poultry feed mills are the major player in the poultry industry, which produce a specific formula feed mix.
