Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the fourth and third most common cancer in Iran and the world, respectively. Carbohydrates can lead to the proliferation of cancer cells, including CRC. The current study aimed to investigate the association between glycemic load (GL), insulin load (IL), glycemic index (GI), insulin index (II), low-carbohydrate diet score (LCDS), and carbohydrate quality index (CQI) with CRC odds.

Magnetic microgels with pH- and thermo-responsive properties were developed from the pectin maleate, N-isopropyl acrylamide, and Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The hybrid materials were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope coupled with X–ray energy dispersive spectroscopy, wide angle X–ray scattering, Zeta potential, and magnetization hysteresis measurements.

Oromucosal administration is an attractive non-invasive route. However, drug absorption is challenged by salivary flow and the mucosa being a significant permeability barrier. The aim of this study was to design and investigate a multi-layered nanofiber-on-foam-on-film (NFF) drug delivery system with unique properties and based on polysaccharides combined as i) mucoadhesive chitosan-based nanofibers, ii) a peptide loaded hydroxypropyl methylcellulose foam, and iii) a saliva-repelling backing film based on ethylcellulose.

Poor induction of mucosal immunity in the intestines by current Salmonella vaccines is a challenge to the poultry industry. We prepared and tested an oral deliverable Salmonella subunit vaccine containing immunogenic outer membrane proteins (OMPs) and flagellin (F) protein loaded and F-protein surface coated chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs) (OMPs-F-CS NPs). The OMPs-F-CS NPs had mean particle size distribution of 514 nm, high positive charge and spherical in shape.

In this study, the ability of different beta-cyclodextrins to facilitate homogeneous dispersion of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) into chitosan membranes is assessed. Drug loading was assessed through atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (MEV-FEG), and X-ray diffraction analyses.

Xylan extracted from corn cobs was used to produce mesalamine-loaded xylan microparticles (XMP5-ASA) by cross-linking polymerization using a non-hazardous cross-linking agent. The microparticles were characterized by thermal analysis (DSC/TG), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Neonicotinoid-based pesticides are extensively used owing to their broad insecticidal spectrum and activity. We developed neonicotinoid dinotefuran (DIN)-loaded chitosan-gelatin microspheres using a spray-drying technology, resulting in a pH- and temperature-responsive controlled-release system.

Hydrogels loaded with chemotherapeutics are promising tools for local tumor treatment. In this work, redoxresponsive implantable hydrogels based on gellan gum were prepared as paclitaxel carriers for HER2-positive breast cancer therapy. To achieve different degrees of chemical crosslinking, hydrogels were synthesized in both acetate buffer and phosphate buffer and crosslinked with different concentrations of L-cysteine.

Nowadays nanoparticles are increasingly investigated for the targeted and controlled delivery of therapeutics, as suggested by the high number of research articles (2400 in 2000 vs 8500 in 2020). Among them, almost 2% investigated nanogels in 2020. Nanogels or nanohydrogels (NGs) are nanoparticles formed by a swollen threedimensional network of synthetic polymers or natural macromolecules such as polysaccharides.

This study investigated the impact of heterogeneity of crosslinking on a range of physical and mechanical properties of calcium alginate networks formed via external gelation with 0.25–2% sodium alginate and 2.5 and 5% CaCl2. Crosslinking in films with 1–2% alginate was highly heterogeneous, as indicated by their lower calcium content (35–7 mg Ca⋅g alginate− 1 ) and apparent solubility (5–6%).

The effect of a combination of a goal-directed fluid protocol and preoperative carbohydrate loading on postoperative complications in elderly patients still remains unknown. Therefore, we designed this trial to evaluate the relative impact of preoperative carbohydrate loading and intraoperative goal-directed fluid therapy versus conventional fluid therapy (CFT) on clinical outcomes in elderly patients following gastrointestinal surgery.

Glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) have been investigated as etiologic factors for some cancers, but epidemiological data on possible associations between dietary carbohydrate intake and esophageal cancer are scant. This study examined the association between GI, GL, and other dietary carbohydrate components and risk of adenocarcinomas and squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus accounting for established risk factors.

Sleep is important for children as it directly impacts their mental and physical development. Sleep is not only influenced by the timing but also the macronutrient (carbohydrate and protein) content of meals. Glycaemic index (GI) and glycaemic load (GL) describe the quality of carbohydrates in a food and the burden of these foods on the body’s blood glucose response.

The study was undertaken to compare the effect of tray and solar drying on the quality attributes of pineapple powder and its storability in different packaging materials. For the study, pineapple slices were first subjected to osmotic dehydration process using sugar syrup of 60 oBrix for 12 hours at room temperature. Powder was prepared after solar (using natural solar cabinet dryer) and tray drying (at 50, 60, 70 and 80 oC) of pineapple slices.

The major organic loading originates from human excreta, and is a complex mixture of fats, proteins, carbohydrates, lignin amino acids, sugars, celluloses, humic material and fatty acids. A large proportion of this organic material is in the form of both live and dead microorganisms which provide a large surface area (0.8-1.7 m2 g-1 ) for sorption of hydrophobic organic residues and it is within this fraction that most synthetic organic compounds are located (ROGERS 1996).
