The aim of this work was to screen and validate biomarkers of ovarian cancer-initiating cells to detect the mechanisms of recurrence of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Methods: Stably labelled the amino acid in side population (SP) cells of epithelial ovarian cancer which were rich in cancer-initiating cells and non-SP cells with isotope in culture and differentially expressed cellular membrane proteins in SP cells were identified through proteomics technology.

Little is known about the role of amino acids in cellular signaling pathways, especially as it pertains to pathways that regulate the rate of aging. However, it has been shown that methionine or tryptophan restriction extends lifespan in higher eukaryotes and increased proline or tryptophan levels increase longevity in C. elegans.

Prostaglandins and other eicosanoids are known as regulating agents for cellular immune responses to pathogen threats in an insect’s hemolymph. A novel synthetic peptide, WolFar, was customized from a conserved region of the Wolbachia surface protein (WSP), isolated from an economically important endoparasitoid species, Fopius arisanus. WolFar consists of nine amino acids (SYY VRL QYN) and was tested on the house cricket, Acheta domesticus. Three concentrations of peptides, 0.83 mmol/L (100%), 0.63 mmol/L (75%), and 0.42 mmol/L (50%), were injected and observed for 72 h.

Understanding the genetic basis of frost tolerance (FT) in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is essential for preventing yield losses caused by frost due to cellular damage, dehydration and reduced metabolism. FT is a complex trait regulated by a number of genes and several gene families. Availability of the wheat genomic sequence opens new opportunities for exploring candidate genes diversity for FT.

Most proteins have evolved in specific cellular compartments that limit their functions and potential interactions. On the other hand, motifs define amino acid arrangements conserved between protein family members and represent powerful tools for assigning function to protein sequences.

Proteins perform their functions in associated cellular locations. Therefore, the study of protein function can be facilitated by predictions of protein location. Protein location can be predicted either from the sequence of a protein alone by identification of targeting peptide sequences and motifs, or by homology to proteins of known location.

Cellular respiration is a catabolic pathway for producing adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and is the most efficient process through which cells harvest energy from consumed food. When cells undergo cellular respiration, they require a pathway to keep and transfer electrons (i.e., the electron transport chain).

Lysine succinylation is a new kind of post-translational modification which plays a key role in protein conformation regulation and cellular function control. To understand the mechanism of succinylation profoundly, it is necessary to identify succinylation sites in proteins accurately.

Although some molecularly targeted drugs for colorectal cancer are used clinically and contribute to a better prognosis, the current median survival of advanced colorectal cancer patients is not sufficient. Autophagy, a basic cell survival mechanism mediated by recycling of cellular amino acids, plays an important role in cancer.

The occurrence of cancer during pregnancy merges two complex, poorly understood metabolic and hormonal conditions. This association can exacerbate the conditions of both the mother and the foetus. The branched-chain amino acid leucine enhances cellular activity, particularly by increasing protein synthesis.

The arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis is characterized by the presence of different symbiotic structures and stages within a root system. Therefore tools allowing the analysis of molecular changes at a cellular level are required to reveal insight into arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis development and functioning.

Alpha-tocopherol (α-Toc), so-called vitamin E, is a low molecular weight lipophilic antioxidant that generally protects plants from stress-induced cellular oxidation. It is well known that exogenously applied α-Toc is effective in improving plant growth and developmental processes under adverse environmental conditions.

Biosynthesis of cholesterol represents one of the funda-mental cellular metabolic processes. SterolD14-reductase (D14-SR) is a microsomal enzyme involved in the con-version of lanosterol to cholesterol in mammals. Amino-acid sequence analysis of a 38-kDa protein puri®ed from bovine liver in our laboratory revealed 90% similarity with a human sterol reductase, SR-1, encoded by the TM7SF2gene, and with the C-terminal domain of human lamin B receptor.

We have determined the cDNA nucleotide sequence, deduced the amino acid sequence and defined the gene structure for the cellular heart-type (H-FABP) or fatty acid-binding protein 3 (FABP3) from zebrafish. The zebrafish FABP3 exhibited the greatest amino acid sequence identity to fish andmammalian heart-type FABPs. 3¢RACE and 5¢ RLM-RACE mapped two alternative polyadenylation sites and three transcription start sites, respectively.
