  • This study aims to develop an HPFRM with low polypropylene fiber content by using locally available ingredients in Southern Vietnam to address the deficiencies commonly observed in traditional cement grout mortars. Three mixture proportions were prepared with different water-to-binder (w/b) ratios of 0.2, 0.25, and 0.3. Then, the performance of HPFRM was evaluated in both fresh and hardened stages.

  • The present research aims to investigate the influence of the ratio of reinforced concrete layer height to total height (h/H) on the mechanical properties of functionally graded concrete (FGC) containing fly ash (Fa) and polypropylene (PP) fiber. All FGC samples were prepared with a constant water-to-cementitious materials ratio of 0.36 and ordinary Portland cement was replaced with Fa at 20% by mass.

  • Based on the increase in tensile strength and toughness (43% and 30%, respectively), the feasibility of the hybrid nanofibers containing Single-walled carbon nanotubes and Nylon 66 on reinforcing cementitious materials has been clarified. The well-linking effect of nanofibers in the microstructure of hardened cement pastes has been found by scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis and well-explained for the increase in mechanical strengths. Besides, field emission transmission electron microscope (FE-TEM) analysis has also been conducted to analyze the properties of the hybrid nanofibers.

  • The main goal of the present work is to study the mechanical response of glass/epoxy composites when exposed to cement and geopolymer (metakaolin) mortars, as it happens in Civil Engineering applications. For this purpose, specimens were embedded into mortar followed by a period of curing, which was done under the air laboratory environment. For cement, curing was also performed inside a container filled with water. The specimens were removed from the mortars after 30, 60 or 90 days of curing and then tested.

  • Polymer cement mortar (PCM) is a widely used cementitious repairing material due to its considerable adhesive property with concrete. However, the polymers are sensitive to elevated temperatures. The behaviours of polymers and PCM at elevated temperatures (e.g., 60 °C) for short, moderate duration and cyclic conditions remain unknown and need to be explored. This work was aimed at studying the mechanical performance of PCM and PCM-concrete composites under the aforementioned exposure conditions.

  • The high temperatures of fires affect the physical and chemical properties of the concrete and thus influence its mechanical properties. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on the compressive strength at high temperatures of high-strength fibre concretes. The influence of the high temperatures on the physical and chemical changes of the concrete was also analysed by Thermo Gravimetric Analysis/Differential Thermal Analysis (TGA/DTA), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (SEM/EDS).

  • The research in the field of cementitious materials has brought towards many non-traditional binder systems. One of these systems, a ternary binder composed of calcium aluminate cement (CAC), ordinary Portland cement (OPC), and calcium sulfate (C$Hx), called ettringite binder, offers a possibility of very rapid development in mechanical strength. In this research, 18 different ternary mixtures were tested with two types of calcium sulfate, i.e. anhydrite and hemihydrate.

  • The chemical properties of organics of health concern – hydrophobic and not water soluble - results in a low bioavailability to plants. Plant growth is dependent on the water solubility of nutrients and minerals and water is the transporting vector. Organics with a low water solubility will therefore not be taken up by plants. The presence of organic environmental pollutants, like dioxins and PCBs in agricultural crops is more the result of atmospheric deposition than direct absorption from contaminated soil.

  • Plants are a distinct kingdom of organisms that possess unique properties of reproduction, development, physiology, and adaptation. Plant diversity refers to the variety of plants that exist on the Earth. Plants, in order to survive, have to compete with other plants and organisms in an ecosystem. Over time, they have developed various characteristics to help them survive, which leads to plant diversity.
