Little is known on the significance, diversity and characteristics of gut E. coli in goats despite their importance as food animals globally. We characterized the temporal dynamics in diversity of E. coli in faecal samples from a cohort of goat kids and adult meat goats on pasture over a one-year period.

Secondary endosymbionts of aphids provide benefits to their hosts, but also impose costs such as reduced lifespan and reproductive output. The aphid Aphis fabae is host to different strains of the secondary endosymbiont Hamiltonella defensa, which encode different putative toxins.

Alternaria helianthi the causal agent of sunflower leaf blight was isolated from a monoconidial culture derived from blight infected sunflower leaves of MSFH-8.Alternariahelianthi was first cultured on PDA and then transferred to Potato Dextrose broth. Toxin was purified from the cultural filtrate by treatment with organic solvents. The identity of the toxin was established by estimating carbohydrate and protein content. Based on the quantity of carbohydrate and protein the toxin was identified as glycoproteinaceous in nature.

CSW/AKS/2010 is a novel herbal formulation consisting of Withania somnifera and Curcuma longa along with toxin binder yeast- Saccharomyces cereviciae, intended to be incorporated in livestock feed for prevention and treatment of mycotoxicoses. The present study evaluated potential safety of CSW/AKS/2010 following acute and subacute exposure in Wistar rats. Phytochemical analysis of Withania somnifera and Curcuma longa was carried out with the help of HPLC and HPTLC respectively.

The present study was designed to study the prevalence and characterization of shiga toxin producing Escherichia coli from dairy animals, water samples in dairy farms and from humans who were in close contact with animals. A total of 508 faecal samples from dairy animals, 4 water samples from dairy farms and 28 Human faecal samples, who were in close contact with animals were subjected to cultural and biochemical tests for confirmation of E. coli.

Effector proteins function not only as toxins to induce plant cell death, but also enable pathogens to suppress or evade plant defense responses. NLP-like proteins are considered to be effector proteins, and they have been isolated from bacteria, fungi, and oomycete plant pathogens.

Avian urolithiasis, or known as gout, is resultant to kidney damage from any of a number of potential cause, namely infectious or nutritional disease, ingestion of toxins, or a combination of factors. The present study reports pathomorphology of visceral Gout in commercial broiler chicken from Puducherry and Tamil Nadu region in India. A total of 120 kidney samples were collected for gross and histopathological examination. 24 (20%) samples showed gross changes of visceral gout. Microscopically, gout was recorded in 28 (23.33%) cases.

The Clostridium difficile toxins, toxin A and Toxin B were characterised in respect to the influence of glucose and incubation period on release of toxins, cytotoxic activities of the toxins in Verocell line and the immunogenic potential of C. difficile toxoids. A gradual increase in protein concentrations was observed in the cell free supernatants of toxin A and B positive C. difficile isolate with increase in incubation period and found to reach the highest at 48 hr of incubation, i.e., 5.24 µg/µl and 5.06 µg/µl, respectively. Release of C.

Uridine-5¢-diphospho-1-a-D-glucose (UDP-Glc) is a common substrate used by glucosyltransferases, including certain bacterial toxins such as Toxins A and B from Clostridium difficile. Fluorescent analogs of UDP-Glc have been prepared for use in our studies of the clostridial toxins. These compounds are related to the methylanthraniloylATP compounds commonly used to probe the chemistry of ATP-dependent enzymes. The reaction of excess methylisatoic anhydride with UDP-Glc in aqueous solution yields primarily the 2¢ and 3¢ isomers of methylanthraniloyl-UDPGlc (MUG).

d-Atracotoxins (d-ACTXs) from Australian funnel-web spiders differ structurally from scorpion a-toxins (ScaTx) but similarly slow sodium current inactivation and compete for their binding to sodium channels at receptor site-3. Characterization of the binding of 125 I-labelled d-ACTX-Hv1a to various sodium channels reveals a decrease in anity for depolarized (0 mV;Kd6.5 1.4 nM) vs.polar-ized ()55 mV;Kd0.60.2nM) rat brain synaptosomes.

Two novel toxins, Lqh6 andLqh7, isolated from the venom of the scorpionLeiurus quinquestriatus hebraeus, have in their sequence amolecular signature (8Q/KPE10) associated with a recently defined group ofa-toxins that target Na channels, namely thea-like toxins [reviewed inGordon, D., Savarin, P.,Gurevitz,M.&Zinn-Justin, S. (1998)J. Toxicol. Toxin Rev.17, 131–159]. Lqh6 and Lqh7 are highly toxic to insects and mice, and inhibit the binding of a-toxins to cockroach neuronal membranes.

PBTx3 is the tenth member (called Ôa-KTx1.10Õ)ofsubfamily1ofK + channel-blocking pep-tidesknown thus far.

There is much evidence to indicate that cholesterol forms lateral membranemicrodomains (rafts), and to suggest their important role in cellular signaling. However, no probe has been produced to analyze cholesterol behavior, especially cholesterol movement in rafts, in real time. To obtain a potent tool for analyzing cholesterol dynamics in rafts, we prepared and characterized several truncated fragments of h-toxin (perfringolysin O), a cholesterol-binding cytolysin, whose chemicallymodified formhas been recently shown to bind selectively to rafts. ...

We previously purified and characterized a peptide toxin, birtoxin, from the South African scorpion Parabuthus transvaalicus. Birtoxin is a 58-residue, long chain neurotoxin that has a unique three disulfide-bridged structure. Here we report the isolation and characterization of ikitoxin, a pep-tide toxin with a single residue difference, and a markedly reducedbiological activity, frombirtoxin. Bioassays onmice showed that high doses of ikitoxin induce unprovoked jumps, whereas birtoxin induces jumps at a 1000-fold lower concentration. ...

Pi4 is a38-residue toxincross-linkedby fourdisulfidebridges that has been isolated from the venom of the Chactidae scorpion Pandinus imperator. Together with maurotoxin, Pi1, Pi7 andHsTx1, Pi4belongs to theaKTX6 subfamilyof short four-disulfide-bridged scorpion toxins acting on K + channels. Due to its very low abundance in venom, Pi4 was chemically synthesized in order to better characterize its pharmacology and structural properties.
