It was demonstrated that Poly(p-Xylylene) (PPX) could be prepared from α,α’-Bis(Alkoxy or Aryloxy) –p-Xylenes via chemical vapor decomposition (CVD)- method. This is one-step process and there are side products by the CVD-process. This effect depends both on the CVD- condition and the properties of the starting monomer. The structure and thermal behavior of the material were characterized by FTIR, UVvis spectroscopy, elemental analysis, wide-angle X-ray diffraction, DTA and DSC.

Guanosine triphosphate nucleotide analogues such as GppNHp (also named GMPPNP) or GTPcS are widely used to stabilize rapidly hydrolyzing protein-nucleotide complexes and to investigate biochemical reaction pathways. Here we describe the chemical synthesis of guanosine 5¢-O-(c-amidotriphosphate) (GTPcNH2) and a new synthesis of guanosine 5¢-O-(c-fluorotriphosphate) (GTPcF). The two nucleotides were characterized using NMR spectroscopy and isothermal titration calorimetry. Chemical shift data on 31P, 19F and 1H NMR resonances are tabulated.

A series of trehalose-based oligosaccharides were isolated from the cytoplasmic fraction of Mycobacterium smegmatis and purified by gel-filtration and paper chromatography and TLC. Manganese lipoxygenase was isolated to homogeneity from the take-all fungus, Gaeumannomyces graminis. The C-terminal amino acids and several internal peptides were sequenced, and the information was used to obtain a cDNA probe by RT/PCR. Screening of a genomic library of G. graminis yielded a full-length clone of the Mn-Lipoxygenase gene. cDNA analysis showed that the gene spanned 2.6 kb and contained one intron (133 bp). The involvement of the lysine residue present at the active site of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cell glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (Gra3P DH) was investigated by using the lysine specific reagents trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS) and pyridoxal phosphate (PP). Both TNBS and PP inactivated EAC cell Gra3P DH with pseudo-first-order kinetics with the rate dependent on modifier concentration. Kinetic analysis, including a Tsou plot, indicated that both TNBS and PP apparently react with one lysine residue per enzyme molecule.

Glycosphingolipids (GSLs) were purified from adults and plerocercoids of the tapeworm Diphyllobothrium hottai, and their chemical structures were determined. Total lipid fractions prepared from chloroform/methanol extracts of whole tissues were fractionated successively on ion-exchange chromatography, silicic acid column chromatography, and preparative TLC.
