Thrombocytopenia is often considered a risk factor for bleeding, but conversely may be associated with an increased thrombotic risk in several clinical situations. Here we present a patient with arterial thrombosis and chronic disseminated intravascular coagulation caused by metastatic urothelial carcinoma.

Most centres use fresh frozen plasma (FFP) based protocols to prevent or treat haemostatic disturbances during liver transplantation. In the present study, we used a rotational thrombelastometry (ROTEM™, TEM, Munich, Germany) guided haemostasis management with fibrinogen concentrates, prothrombin complex concentrates (PCC), platelet concentrates and tranexamic acid without FFP usage and determined the effect on 30 day mortality.

Acute bleeding is an omnipresent challenge for all physicians. Uncontrolled hemorrhage is the most common preventable cause of death after trauma worldwide. In different surgical disciplines, hemorrhage represents an independent risk factor for increased postoperative morbimortality, directly affecting patients’ outcomes. This study asked anesthesiologists about their personal perceived challenges when treating bleeding patients.

Sepsis in newborn infants has a high risk of morbidity and mortality. Despite advances in medicine, diagnosis of neonatal sepsis remains as a major challenge. The aim of this study is to unravel the role played by new network of biomarkers namely high mobility group box 1(HMGB1), thrombomodulin and heat shock protein (Hsp) 72 in addition to redox status in diagnosis of early onset neonatal sepsis before and after antibiotic therapy.

Dengue fever is an acute febrile infectious disease, caused by any of four serotypes. Severe dengue infections may give rise to many complications such as liver failure, disseminated intravascular coagulation, encephalopathy, myocarditis, acute renal failure and haemolytic uraemic syndrome. ST segment and T wave changes in the electrocardiogram together with low ejection fraction and global hypokinesia on radionuclide ventriculography have been found. Hence, this study was intended to assess the cardiac manifestations in dengue fever patients.

A six year old female German shepherd crossbred dog was reported with the history of snake bite by Russell’s viper, acute onset of oozing of blood from inner side of the oral cavity, oedematous face, congested conjunctival mucus membrane, restlessness and respiratory distress and signs of disseminated intravascular coagulation. Animal was treated with Polyvalent Snake Venom followed by supportive therapy of Tetanus Toxoid, Dexamethasone, Atropine Sulphate, and antibiotic combinations like ceftriaxone and metronidazole along with liver tonic.

Heat stress is a form of non fever hyperthermia occurs when heat load exceeds than the heat loss from the body. The body temperature reaches above 105 – 106˚ F, often complicated by changes in other body system such as acid-base balance, kidney, liver, cerebral edema and blood clotting mechanism. More common in brachycephalic breeds, long thick hairy breeds, young ones and aged animals. Physical examination is marked by excessive hyperemia, panting, hypersalivation, tachycardia, and various neurologic signs.

In some ways, the uncertainty over supply consistency is really a form of risk management. In the future, both petrochemical supply and renewable supply will carry increased risk. For petrochemicals, further supply uncertainty may arise from political changes in other world areas. For plant-derived materials, weather may be an uncertain factor locally, while specialty plants with less commodity type production may result in more trading uncertainty.

Moreover, school financial aid officials said that under the Direct Loan Program they were also able to easily change the amount of a loan if needed. For example, schools can adjust the amount of a Direct Loan to reflect changes in students’ courseload or increases in grant and scholarship aid—events that could affect the loan amount available to borrowers. The fourth factor—ease of tracking student loans over time— was important because the Direct Loan Program improved the loan process for students.

A good management and control of the societies in general is essential for their successful functioning and for that purpose the Government has been aiding them with trained and experienced personals and also with financial assistance. The management having no fear of evaluation of their works and checking of their accounts by some independent agencies might go reckless and the interest of the society might be affected adversely. With this objective in view audit of each Co-operative society at least once in each year has statutorily been provide.

Particles with diameter between about 0.05 to 2.5µm contained in the so-called accumulation mode, are mainly formed by coagulation and generated from condensation processes. Particles in this size range can also be produced from secondary formation and natural sources such as sea spray or the resuspension of fine soil or dust, although less than 10% of mass concentration of the fine fraction (

I am grateful to the publishers for the invitation to produce a second edition of Applied Basic Science for Basic Surgical Training. Despite the considerable changes to education and examination, the requirement of any future surgeon to possess a comprehensive knowledge of the applied basic sciences remains the core of surgical training; a fact that is universally acknowledged by the organisations most closely involved in the shaping of the surgical curriculum.

Historically speaking, the earliest asset pricing models made rel- atively simple predictions about what it means for a benchmark to be OE to a managed portfolio. The Capital Asset Pricing Model of Sharpe (CAPM, 1964) implies that all investors should hold a broadly diversified “market portfolio,” combined with safe assets or “cash,” according to the investor’s tastes for risk. It follows that an OE portfolio is a broadly diversified portfolio, combined with safe assets or cash, mixed to have the same market risk exposure, or “beta” coefficient as the fund.
