Chemical absorption of CO2 into aqueous amine solutions using a nonstirred bubble column was experimentally investigated. The performance of CO2 absorption of four different primary and secondary amines including monoethanolamine (MEA), piperazine (PZ), 2-piperidineethanol (2PE), and homopiperazine (HPZ) were compared. The effects of initial concentration of amine, the inlet mole fraction of CO2 , and solution temperature on the rate of CO2 absorption and CO2 loading (mol CO2 /mol amine) were studied in the range of 0.02–1 M, 0.10–0.15, and 25–40 °C, respectively.

The modernization of the world has considerably reduced the prime sources of energy such as coal, diesel and gas. Thus, alternative energy sources based on renewable energy have been the main concentration nowadays to address the world’s energy demand as well as restrict global warming. Solar energy is the main source used to generate electricity through photovoltaic (PV) system. However, the output of PV power is normally intermittent.

lectrocatalytic effect of the untreated and TiO2 +polyacrylonitrile (PAN) modified discarded battery coal (DBC) and pencil graphite electrodes (PGE) were evaluated in fuel cell (FC) applications. TiO2+PAN solution is coated on PGE and DBC electrodes by electrospinning. According to the FESEM and EDS characterizations, TiO2 and PAN nanofibers are found to be approximately 40 and 240 nm in size. TiO2+PAN/PGE showed the best FC performances with 2.00 A cm–2 current density and 5.05 W cm–2 power density values, whereas TiO2+PAN/DBC showed 0.68 A cm–2 current density and 0.

The paper studies theories of material flow cost accounting (MFCA). The purpose of this paper is to analyse the reality in material management in Viet Nam thermal power plants (TPP). Research is based on the material flow theory, MFCA, the material balance for effective management of the production and material wastes during the manufacturing process. Costs in producing process based MFCA are included material cost, energy cost, system cost and waste management cost.

The objective of this article is to achieve profitable capital investment in a 250 MW coal-fired thermal power plant situated in east part of Tajikistan. In this context, the article applies a mathematical model to estimate the quantitative advantages of coal alternatives. The cost analysis of the plant was carried out on the basis of total capital investment, operating cost (i.e. coal feedstock, maintenance and labour, and cost of pumping power) and revenue.

Civilization is on a non-renewable energy course upon which we are dependent and which can only be maintained by increasing use of fossil fuel oil and gas and coal, with the result of rising greenhouse gas levels and increasing climate change that leads to increasing ecosystem destruction. It is imperative that civilization bring about an energy transition to a renewable energy economy, which may be based on inexhaustible solar energy, hydrogen, and electricity derived from renewable sources.

An integrated gasification process was developed for an Ohio-based kraft pulp mill to produce liquid transportation fuels from biomass and coal. Black liquor byproduct from the pulp mill is co-gasified with coal to generate high quality syngas for further synthesis to dimethyl ether (DME) and/or Fischer-Tropsch fuels. A Texaco gasifier was chosen as the focal point for this design. Whenever possible, energy is recovered throughout to generate heat, steam, and power. Mass and energy balances were performed for individual process components and the entire design.

A broad-based transformation of Ontario’s power system is well underway, revolutionizing the way electricity is generated, delivered, managed and even consumed in Ontario. Many of the changes at play are more profound and occurring faster than expected. The increasing investment in new renewable generation is accompanied by the expansion and enhancement of the transmission and distribution systems, the retirement of Ontario’s coal generating fleet, and the development of a ‘smart grid’ for Ontario.

Mercury that exists in a stable state in the Earth’s crust is referred to as “geologic” mercury. The active mercury cycle begins when mercury is released from this stable form to the environment through natural processes or human intervention. There are four principal pathways releasing mercury to the environment. First is through natural processes; for example, mercury that was once in the Earth’s crust could be released through a volcanic eruption or other geological activity.

For most of the time, electric energy supply was based on large centralized power stations, the biggest of them located close to coal mines. Electricity distribution traditionally is done by means of high voltage power lines feeding the electricity distribution grid. With time, electric utilities became large enterprises integrating electricity generation, distribution, and customer relations. Electricity generation mainly is powered by heat engines, their efficiency being determined by the temperature difference of the work fluid.
