Cold and heat shock

Queen failure is a persistent problem in beekeeping operations, but in the absence of overt symptoms it is often difficult, if not impossible, to ascertain the root cause. Stressors like heat-shock, cold-shock, and sublethal pesticide exposure can reduce stored sperm viability and lead to cryptic queen failure.

Psychrotrophic lactic acid bacteria (LAB) species are the dominant species in the microbiota of coldstored modified-atmosphere-packaged food products and are the main cause of food spoilage. Despite the importance of psychrotrophic LAB, their response to cold or heat has not been studied.

The purpose of this study was to study the pathogenecity of cold and heatshocked bacteria using Pasteurella multocida and rabbits as a model. Pasteurella multocida is an enigmatic pathogen. The capsule and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of Pasteurella multocida constitute the major components of the bacterial cell surface; they play key roles in a range of interactions between the bacteria and the hosts they colonize or infect. Pasteurella multocida was inoculated into nutrient broth tubes and incubated at 37°C for 24 hours.

The purpose of this study was to detect the changes in the protein profiles for bacteria which were subjected to heat and cold- shock compared to the control. For heat shocked test, all bacteria viz., Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus cereus were inoculated into nutrient broth tubes and incubated at 37°C for 24 hours.

Endophytes are microorganisms mostly bacteria and fungi that lives partially or completely its life cycle inside living plant tissue without causing adverse negative symptoms. Endophytes play a major role in structuring shaping processes of plant such as colonization, competition, coexistence and soil nutrient dynamics. Some endophytes promote growth of their host plants by enhancing the host‟s ability to take up nitrogen and phosphorus.

To elucidate the molecular mechanism underlying the heat shock response in cold-water fish species, genes enco-ding heat shock transcription factors (HSFs) were cloned fromRTG-2cellsof the rainbowtroutOncorhynchusmykiss. Consequently, two distinctHSF1genes, namedHSF1aand HSF1b, were identified. The predicted amino acid sequence ofHSF1ashows 86.4% identity to that ofHSF1b.Thetwo proteins contained the general structuralmotifs ofHSF1, i.e. a DNA-binding domain, hydrophobic heptad repeats and nuclear localization signals. ...

Bacterial RNases are promising tools for the development of anticancer drugs. Neoplastic transformation leads to enhanced accumulation of rRNA and tRNA, and altered expression of regulatory noncoding RNAs. Cleav-age of RNA in cancer cells is the main reason for the cytotoxic effects of exogenic RNases.
