Cycocel ameliorated the osmotic stress at -4bar PEG by increasing chlorophyll contents in slow expanding shoots and increased radicle thickness enhancing root system under water stress. Remarkable effects of CCC on radicle thickness were displayed on root cap enlargement under -4 and -8 bars osmotic stress. Root growth/ radicle length was reduced drastically in kinetin treatments under all levels of water stress.

Rice is one of the most important staple foods among the cereal crops for half of the human population. Unlike other cereals such as wheat and barley, rice plants are susceptible to cold stress, which causes decrease in productivity, especially in regions where the indica subspecies is cultivated.

The present investigation was carried out to find faster chemical methods to determine genetic purity in ten pigeon pea varieties. The faster methods are Ferrous Sulphate test, Sodium hydroxide test, peroxidase test, seedling growth response to GA3, kinetin and 2- 4D. Histogram using pixel luminance in ferrous sulphate test based on the grey scale produces values ranging from 17377 to 90616 which can be used to distinguish pigeon pea varieties. Similarly, sodium hydroxide test produced six coloured palette based on RGB values can distinguish varieties in pigeon pea.

In order to develop genotypes having a stable higher yield, it is necessary to characterize genetic resources based on drought adaptation, determine the suitable genotypes, and use them in breeding programs. This study was carried out in greenhouses, plant growth chambers, and research farms of the Faculty of Agriculture at Atatürk University.

THE EXTENT AND TIMING OF PLANT GROWTH are controlled by the coordinated actions of positive and negative regulators. Some of the most obvious examples of regulated nongrowth are seed and bud dormancy, adaptive features that delay growth until environmental conditions are favorable. For many years, plant physiologists suspected that the phenomena of seed and bud dormancy were caused by inhibitory compounds, and they attempted to extract and isolate such compounds from a variety of plant tissues, especially dormant buds.
