In Thailand, there are three major species of Colletotrichum spp. which caused anthracnose disease to chili product; Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, C. capsici and C. acutatum. In 2015, the researchers from Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology reported a first success of radiation-induced mutation breeding for anthracnose resistance which caused by C. gloeosporioides in Sukhothai.

Anthracnose causes the healthy green fruits and red ripe fruits lose 31% and 46% ascorbic acid after 14 days of pathogenesis (Ramesh, 2007) and 25% loss of capsaicin content (Prasad et al., 2000). The above reasons prompted the present study to test the efficacy of botanicals in vitro.

Cowpea is an important leguminous vegetable crop usually grown during Pre-kharif, Kharif and Rabi season under West Bengal condition. Now days this crop is severely affected due to biotic stress. Seven foliar pathogens namely Alternaria alternata, Colletotrichum capsici, Corynespora cassicola, Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium ciceri, Sclerotium rolfsii and Curvularia lunata were isolated from the diseased cowpea crop in Jaguli Instructional farm of BCKV.

Trichoderma spp. is biocontrol agents extensively used in management of fungal diseases of crop plants exhibiting mycoparasitism against a wide range of plant pathogens. Twelve Trichoderma isolates T. asperellum (7), T. harzianum (4) and T. longibrachiatum collected from ten district of U.P from chilli ecosystem were characterized for their antagonistic activity against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. capsici and Colletotrichum capsici of chilli. The isolates revealed differential reaction pattern against the test pathogens.

The field and laboratory screening of 31 accessions were carried out against fruit rot of chilli caused by Colletotrichum capsici under natural pressure condition. Out of 31 accessions eight were found resistant, remaining twenty three accessions found moderately resistant at 90 days after transplanting. The reaction during harvest stages varied from that of 90 days after harvest which recorded, 2 resistant accessions, eight moderately resistant accessions, twenty moderately susceptible accessions and Byadagi Dabbi as susceptible.

Bacillus subtilis is one of the potential PGPR and biocontrol agent against several plant pathogens of important crop plants. In the present study thirty isolates of B. subtilis were isolated from different rhizosphere soil samples from different parts of North Eastern Karnataka region. All the rhizospheric isolates were rod shaped, positive for gram reaction, endospore, oxidase, catalase, starch hydrolysis, negative for indole, KOH test and green coloured colonies were grown on Hichrome Bacillus agar medium.

Anthracnose of chilli caused by Colletotrichum capsici is a widespread problem limiting the profitable cultivation of chilli in Manipur. An experiment on antifungal efficacy of four plant extracts viz., Garlic (Allium sativum), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Citronella (Cymbopogon spp), Ginger (Zingiber officinale) and three Cow urine, Cow dung, Cow milk viz., Cow urine, Cow dung, Cow milk and honey was done through poisoned food technique by setting three concentrations in in vitro conditions against C. capsici.

Die-back and fruit rot caused by Colletotrichum capsici (Syd.) Butl. and Bisby is the destructive disease in chillies. The effect of Bacillus subtilis talc based formulation in managing the fruit rot disease and inducing resistance in chillies was investigated. B. subtilis strain Bs1 significantly inhibited the growth of C. capsici in vitro. Seed treatment with B. subtilis @ 10 g/kg seed followed by foliar application of B. subtilis @ 10 g/l on 30 and 60 DAP was effective in managing the fruit rot disease and increasing the dry chillies yield under field conditions.

Chilli (Capsicum annuum) is an important spice as well as vegetable crop that are grown throughout the world especially in tropical and subtropical regions. India is a major producer, exporter and consumer of chilli. Chilli is grown in almost all states. Anthracnose disease can occur on leaves, stems, and both pre and post-harvest fruits. It is one of the major and devastating diseases of chilli causes severe losses (10-60%) both in yield and quality of the chilli depending upon the varieties. Diseases are the major problem for successful cultivation of chilli in India.

Rhizosphere soil samples from Brinjal crop were collected from the 12 different locations in north Kashmir districts with the objective to isolate the zinc solubilizing bacteria, their screening and characterization. Zinc carbonate was used as insoluble zinc source. Out of 80 Zn solubilizers, 10 most outstanding isolates were maintained for further screening for mineral solubilization (Zn and K). Among these Znsb(Kup)M2 which was identified as Bacillus cereus by molecular techniques, showed maximum solubilization index (S.I) and solubilization efficiency (S.E) with 2.

Chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) is a major spice crop in India. The production of chilli is constrained mainly by fruit rot (anthracnose) caused by Colletotrichum capsici and other species. Use of chemical fungicides is the common practice for control of anthracnose. However, continuous use of chemical fungicides leads to negative effects on environment, soil and human health.
