In the present study, both of these challenges were addressed through the development of an innovative mixed mode resin with 2-amino-4methylpentanoic acid ligands that combines weak cation exchange with moderate hydrophobic interactions.

The clinical manifestations of schistosomiasis pass by acute, sub acute and chronic stages that mirror the immune response to infection. The later includes in succession innate, TH1 and TH2 adaptive stages, with an ultimate establishment of concomitant immunity. Some patients may also develop late complications, or suffer the sequelae of co-infection with other parasites, bacteria or viruses. Acute manifestations are species-independent; occur during the early stages of invasion and migration, where infection-naivety and the host’s racial and genetic setting play a major role.

In order to estimate the size of the cavity remaining around the heme of the 3A3–microperoxidase 8 (MP8) hemo-abzyme,the formation of 3A3–MP8–Fe(II)-nitrosoalkane complexes upon oxidation of N-monosubstituted hydroxyl-amines was examined. This constituted a new reaction for hemoabzymes and is the first example of fully characterized Fe(II)–metabolite complexes of antibody–porphyrin. Also, via a comparison of the reactions with N-substituted hyd-roxylamines of various size and hydrophobicity, antibody 3A3 was confirmed to bring about a partial steric hindrance on the distal face of MP8....

For this call for proposals, topics focus on regenerative medicine, protein scaffolds as alternatives to antibodies and oligo-nucleotides, immunisation strategies and international cooperation. Regenerative medicine aims to restore the function of diseased or injured tissues and organs by cell transplantation or by the activation of endogenous cells. It also offers possibilities for addressing the complex problems of an ageing population and has the potential to combat rising healthcare costs.

The major pathogenic mechanism of poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis (PSGN) is an in situ immune complex formation due to deposition of streptococcal nephritogenic antigens, such as nephritis-associated plasmin receptor (NAPlr) and Streptococcal pyrogenic exotoxin B (SPE B). Both are capable of activating the alternate pathway of the complement cascade and enhance the expression of adhesion molecules. SPE B also stimulates the production of chemotactic cytokines. NAPlr was isolated from group A streptococcus and was shown to bind plasmin(ogen).
