  • To diagnose the full spectrum of hereditary and congenital diseases, genetic laboratories use many different workfows, ranging from karyotyping to exome sequencing. A single generic high-throughput workflow would greatly increase efciency. We assessed whether genome sequencing (GS) can replace these existing workflows aimed at germline genetic diagnosis for rare disease.

  • Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I glycoproteins present selected peptides or antigens to CD8+T cells that control the cytotoxic immune response. The MHC class I genes are among the most polymorphic loci in the vertebrate genome, with more than twenty thousand alleles known in humans.

  • We introduce ABLE (Approximate Blockwise Likelihood Estimation), a novel simulation-based composite likelihood method that uses the blockwise site frequency spectrum to jointly infer past demography and recombination. ABLE is explicitly designed for a wide variety of data from unphased diploid genomes to genome-wide multi-locus data (for example, RADSeq) and can also accommodate arbitrarily large samples.

  • Sex differences are a common feature of human traits; however, the role sex determination plays in human genetic variation remains unclear. The presence of gene-by-sex (GxS) interactions implies that trait genetic architecture differs between men and women. Here, we show that GxS interactions and genetic heterogeneity among sexes are small but common features of a range of high-level complex traits.

  • A new anthracene derivative of calix[4]arene was synthesized as a highly fluorescent compound. This compound was examined for its fluorescent properties towards different metal ions (Li+, Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Ba2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Pb2+) by UV and fluorescence spectroscopy. On complexation by alkaline earth metal cations and transition metal cations, the fluorescence spectrum was quenched. In particular, Ca2+ caused greater than 98% quenching of the anthracene derivative of calix[4]arene.

  • Comparison between the calculated and experimental results covering molecular structures, assignment of fundamental vibrational modes, and thermodynamic properties were investigated. The optimized molecular geometries were compared with the experimental data obtained from X-ray data of a similar complex, which indicated that the theoretical results agree with the corresponding experimental values. The UV-Vis spectrum of the compound was also recorded and some properties, such as HOMO and LUMO energies and λmax , were determined using DFT (PW91) method.

  • These mononuclear Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) complexes of the ligand were prepared and their structures were proposed by elemental analysis, and infrared and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy; the proton NMR spectrum of the mbH ligand was also recorded. The azo-azomethine ligand, mbH, behaves as a bidentate ligand coordinating through the nitrogen atom of the azomethine (–CH=N–) and the oxygen atom of the phenolic group. Elemental analyses indicated that the metal:ligand ratio was 1:2 in the metal chelates.

  • The inclusion complexation of flavanone with β -cyclodextrin was studied by ultraviolet absorption, steady state fluorescence, time-resolved fluorescence, and 2D ROESY nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic techniques. A 1:1 stoichiometric ratio was determined for the inclusion of flavanone with β -cyclodextrin. The Stern–Volmer constant for the accessible fraction of the binding of flavanone with β -cyclodextrin, and the binding constant for the flavanone–β - cyclodextrin complex are reported.

  • 2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid (H2 dipic) reacts with copper-exchanged zeolite NaY to form [Cu(dipic)(H2 O) 2 ] n , which is encapsulated in the pores of the zeolite. In this zeolite-encapsulated form, the copper derivative functions as an efficient catalyst for the oxidation of cyclohexene, toluene, cyclohexane, and ethyl benzene in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (as an oxidant). The catalyst was readily recovered from the reaction mixture, and it could be reused for an additional three runs without perceptible loss of activity.

  • A rhodamine B derivative containing 1,2,4-triazole as subunit was characterized as an “off–on” type Cu2+ - selective fluorescent probe. It exhibited high selectivity and sensitivity for Cu2+ in ethanol–water solution (9:1, v:v, pH 7.0, 20 mM HEPES) and underwent ring opening. A prominent fluorescence enhancement at 570 nm was observed in the presence of Cu2+ with the change in the absorption spectrum, and a 1:1 metal–ligand complex was formed.

  • The variability consisted inthe emission of category item names under different sequences. As a result, the targets were established for both children. For one of them, the procedure without instructive feedback was slightly better because errorless intraverbal performance was established first. Demonstrations of response variability occurred in more teaching sessions. In the case of the other child, it was the opposite (the procedure with instructive feedback was better). Data were discussed as to possibilities for future studies.
