Consistency of measures

This thesis represents the first comprehensive study on the performance (raw and risk-adjusted), performance persistence, and market timing ability of the equity funds in Hong Kong Mandatory Provident Funds (MPF) scheme during the period 2001 – 2004. Regardless of the measure used (Jensen single-index alpha measure, Fama-French three-factor alpha measure, and modified Jensen alpha controlled by changes in exchange rates), US equity funds and Pacific-Basin excluding Japan equity funds, are found to consistently underperform relative to the market.

Hepcidin (H25) is a hormone peptide synthesized by the liver that binds to ferroportin and blocks iron export. In this study, H25 was inhibited by administration of single and multiple doses of an anti-H25 monoclonal antibody Ab 12B9m in cynomolgus monkeys. The objective of this analysis was to develop a pharmacodynamic model describing the role of H25 in regulating iron homeostasis and the impact of hepcidin inhibition by Ab 12B9m. Total serum H25 and Ab 12B9m were determined in each animal. Corresponding measurements of serum iron and hemoglobin (Hb) were obtained.

In several organisms d-cysteine desulfhydrase (d-CDes) activity (EC 4.1.99.4) was measured; this enzyme decomposes d-cysteine into pyruvate, H2S, and NH3. A gene encoding a putative d-CDes protein was identified in Arabidopsis thaliana(L) Heynh. based on high homology to an Escherichia coliprotein called YedO that hasd-CDes activity. The deduced Arabidopsisprotein consists of 401 amino acids and has a molecular mass of 43.9 kDa.

In this paper we improve an earlier result by Bukhgeim and Uhlmann [1], by showing that in dimension n ≥ 3, the knowledge of the Cauchy data for the Schr¨dinger equation measured on possibly very small subsets of the o boundary determines uniquely the potential. We follow the general strategy of [1] but use a richer set of solutions to the Dirichlet problem. The infinite-dimensional unitary group U(∞) is the inductive limit of growing compact unitary groups U(N ). In this paper we solve a problem of harmonic analysis on U(∞) stated in [Ol3]. The problem consists in computing spectral decomposition for a remarkable 4-parameter family of characters of U(∞). A well-known open question is whether every countable collection of Lipschitz functions on a Banach space X with separable dual has a common point of Fr´chet differentiability. We show that the answer is positive for e some infinite-dimensional X. Previously, even for collections consisting of two functions this has been known for finite-dimensional X only (although for one function the answer is known to be affirmative in full generality).
