  • The settlement was measured with 24 hour-period for each increment and based on which, consolidation characteristics including the time to the end of primary consolidation (EOP) determined by Log Time method and 3-t method and then, the coefficient of secondary consolidation were observed for both undisturbed and disturbed specimens.

  • Ebook "Practical problems in soil mechanics and foundation engineering - Volume 1" contains example problems with detailed step-by-step solutions. The text emphasizes the application of theoretical soil mechanics to geotechnical engineering. Chapters provide example problems and solutions on the physical characteristics of soil, water in the soil, settlement calculations, plasticity and shear strength, plastic equilibrium, and interpretation of in-situ tests. Civil engineers and civil engineering students will find the book highly useful.

  • The finite element analysis greatly enhances the understanding of the observations while the measurements give the finite element analysis substance. A full-scale test embankment reinforced with Tenax TT 201 polymer geogrids and weathered Bangkok clay as backfill material has been carried out. Finite element method has been employed to reanalyze all the measured data from the above test embankment. The agreement between the finite element results and the field data is quite good. The results indicate that the overconsolidation ratios affect much on the consolidation settlement.

  • Normally consolidated clay specimens with different Atterberg’s limits were subjected to undrained uni-directional and multi-directional cyclic shears which were followed by the drainage.

  • Purposes of the topic: To define the variation pore water pressure and deformation (settlement) of soft soil layer during vacuum consolidation. To establish the relationship between Plasticity Index (PI), degree of consolidation (U), thickness of improved soft soil layer (H), and consol.

  • In this study, normally consolidated specimens on four clays with a wide range of Atterberg’s limits were tested by applying several series of undrained multi-directional cyclic shear followed by drainage. The cyclic shear tests were carried out under the shear strain amplitudes (γ = 0.05%-2.00%), number of cycles n = 200 and the phase difference θ = 90o.

  • Ground improvement technique by prefabricated vertical drain (PVD) in combination with vacuum preloading is widely used to facilitate consolidation process and reduce residual settlement. However, this technique seem hardly be estimated by both analytical method and numerical method because it has complex boundary conditions (such as vacuum pressure changing with time). Moreover, lateral displacements caused by this technique are also significant problem.

  • This is the highly sort after secret final agreed version of the TPP, chapter on Intellectual Property Rights. There is still a finishing 'legal scrub' of the document meant to occur, but there are to be no more negotiations between the Parties. The TPP Parties are the United States, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Chile, Singapore, Peru, Vietnam, New Zealand and Brunei Darussalam.

  • Soils are aggregates of mineral particles, and together with air and/or water in the void spaces, they form three-phase systems. A large portion of the earth’s surface is covered by soils, and they are widely used as construction and foundation materials. Soil mechanics is the branch of engineering that deals with the engineering properties of soils and their behavior under stress.
