The relationship between the predation rate of the C. fuscipennis and the prey densities was negative correlation (R is between 0.70 and 0.98), but between the number prey killed and the prey density is positive correlation. The searching time prey of the C. fuscipennis decreased when the prey densities increased that was confirmed by the negative correlation (R between 0.85 and 0.98). The reduviid C. fuscipennis bred by the C. cephalonica in laboratory and they can use for biological control some pests of vegetables (P rapae, S. litura and P. xylostella) in Vietnam.

An experiment was conducted in the laboratory to find out the impact of temperature and relative humidity on growth and development of C. cephalonica during, 2010-2011, revealed that the development period of male and female was maximum with a mean of 89.50 and 92.00 days at 20°C temperature and 40 per cent relative humidity, respectively.

This study revealed, the longer developmental period of females as compare with the males. Females completed total developmental period from egg to adult, ranged from 42 to 55 days with an average of 48.9 days. Males took 42 to 51 with an average 45.3 days for completion of total development at 27±1.6 0C and 46 ± 5 per cent.

Eight isolates of entomopathogenic fungi were evaluated as dried conidia against the rice moth, Corcyra cephalonica. In bioassays two isolates of Beauveria bassiana (BbGc and BbPs) and one isolate of Metarhizium anisopliae (MaPs) consistently gave high mortality to C. cephalonica larvae. Formulations in either kaolin, talc or tapioca flour (20 % w/w a.i.) thoroughly mixed with long grain rice in plastic cups (8 cm diameter by 5 cm) gave complete larval mortality by the 12th day of treatment.

Nine experimental dietary formulations (T1-T9) were prepared which composed of rice, wheat, sorghum, rice + groundnut, wheat + groundnut, sorghum + groundnut, rice + sesamum, wheat + sesamum and sorghum + sesamum as base diet to rear and maintain the rice moth, Corcyra cephalonica under laboratory conditions. All the diets were fortified with baker’s yeast @ 5 g, wettable sulphur @ 5 g, and Streptomycin sulphate @ 50 mg.

The study was carried out to construct the life table and to study the age dependent reproduction of the predatory bug Orius bifilarus feeding on fictitious host, eggs of rice meal moth, Corcyra cephalonica (Stainton) (Lepidoptera: Galleriidae) and on its natural host, Thripspalmi Karny (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) (collected from cucumber) under controlled conditions (25 ± 1°C, 65 ± 5% RH). Themean durations of the pre, post and oviposition periods were 4.3, 1.4 and 14.2 days on C. cephalonica eggs and 4.1, 2.1 and 16.4 days on thrips, the difference being non-significant.

The plant oils and extracts viz., Neem oil, mustard oil, castor oil and Neem seed kernel extract each at three concentrations (5.0, 7.5 and 10%) and an insecticide check malathion 50 EC (0.05 and 0.1%) were evaluated by impregnating the gunny bags against Corcyra cephalonica Stainton (Lepidoptera: Galleriidae). Molecular orbital calculations (AM1 type) were performed on the geometry optimized structures of various farnesal isomers and methyl esters of farnesoic acids. It has been found that the major component, E, E-farnesal, of the sex-pheromone for the rice moth, Corcyra cephalonica Stainton is chemically the most exothermic and stable of all the farnesal isomers.
