A rhodamine B derivative containing 1,2,4-triazole as subunit was characterized as an “off–on” type Cu2+ - selective fluorescent probe. It exhibited high selectivity and sensitivity for Cu2+ in ethanol–water solution (9:1, v:v, pH 7.0, 20 mM HEPES) and underwent ring opening. A prominent fluorescence enhancement at 570 nm was observed in the presence of Cu2+ with the change in the absorption spectrum, and a 1:1 metal–ligand complex was formed.

This study aims to demonstrate the performance of the inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) following hot plate heating digestion method for marine fauna samples. About 100 to 200 mg of lobster hepatopancreas certified reference materials (CRMs; TORT-3 from National Research Council Canada) in each sample was processed the hot plate heating digestion procedure before analyzing 12 trace metals (Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Sr, Cd, Hg and Pb) by ICP-MS.

In this paper, we have calculated the detection limits of neutron activation analysis (NAA) for some of the common elements in such samples utilizing the ORIGEN and MCNP codes and verified the simulations using the experimental results of three soil standard reference materials, namely, G02.SRM, G18.SRM, and G28.SRM.

Background concentrations of the heavy metals Mn, Ni, Cd, Co, Zn, Cu, and Pb in the soils and plant monitors of the Boatin Reserve were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). Surface soil layers of the Boatin Reserve were polluted with Cu, as its concentration exceeded both the national legal standards and the content of Cu in nonpolluted areas.
