Ebook "Biotechnology of isoprenoids (Advances in Biochemical engineering/biotechnology, Volume 148)" focuses on some of the fundamentals of isoprenoid biosynthesis in bacteria, fungi and plants and also offers a deeper insight in one of the key enzyme classes involved in isoprenoid biosynthesis, plant cytochrome P450 monooxygenases. Other important classes of enzymes such as prenyl transferases and terpenoid synthases are covered with different subchapters in several chapters across the book.

Distribution of allelic and genotypic frequencies of NAT2 and CYP2E1 variants in Moroccan population
Several pathogenesis and genetic factors influence predisposition to antituberculosis drug-induced hepatotoxicity (ATDH) especially for isoniazid (INH). However, the major susceptibility genes for ATDH are N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) and cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1).

Pistachio (Pistacia vera), one of the most important commercial nut crops worldwide, is highly adaptable to abiotic stresses and is tolerant to drought and salt stresses. Results: Here, we provide a draft de novo genome of pistachio as well as large-scale genome resequencing. Comparative genomic analyses reveal stress adaptation of pistachio is likely attributable to the expanded cytochrome P450 and chitinase gene families.

In humans, the drug metabolizing enzyme CYP2D6 is highly polymorphic resulting in substantial differences in the metabolism of drugs including anti-arrhythmics, neuroleptics, and opioids. The objective of this study was to phenotype a population of 100 horses from five different breeds and assess differences in the metabolic activity of the equine CYP2D6 homolog using codeine as a probe drug.

In addition, optimum ionic strength, optimum pH, optimum temperature, and stable pH values were determined for the enzyme in the kinetic studies performed. K M and Vmax were determined for NADPH and cytochrome c. Effects of some metals ions, antibiotics, and some other drugs used in aquarium fisheries on the activity of the enzyme were investigated. IC50 values and Ki values of metals showing an inhibitory effect were calculated.

Quantitation was performed with multiple reaction monitoring in the negative ionization mode. The response of the method was linear over a dynamic range of 0.5–500, 1.0–750, and 0.25–150 ng/mL for LOS, EXP-3174, and HCTZ, respectively. Extent of signal suppression/enhancement was examined through postcolumn infusion. The effect of matrix components was evaluated by postextraction spiking and calculation of the slope of calibration lines. The method was successfully applied to a bioequivalence study of 50 mg losartan and 12.

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a polymer that is widely used as a carrier for drug delivery systems (DDS). A library of N-PEGylated quinoline derivatives of PEG molecular weight 200 was prepared rapidly after the activation of PEGs using maleic anhydride. Quinoline with a polymer backbone is essential as new material. PEG is a water-soluble nonionic polymer approved by food and drug organizations for medicine applications. Because of its nontoxic grapheme, it is widely utilized in numerous biochemical, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and industrialized applications.

The brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys) is an invasive pest in North America which causes severe economic losses on tree fruits, ornamentals, vegetables, and field crops. The H. halys is an extreme generalist and this feeding behaviour may have been a major contributor behind its establishment and successful adaptation in invasive habitats of North America. To develop an understanding into the mechanism of H. halys’ generalist herbivory, here we specifically focused on genes putatively facilitating its adaptation on diverse host plants.

Euryale ferox Salisb., an annual aquatic plant, is the only species in the genus Euryale in the Nymphaeaceae. Seeds of E. ferox are a nutritious food and also used in traditional Chinese medicine (Qian Shi in Mandarin). The molecular events that occurred during seed development in E. ferox have not yet been characterized. In this study, we performed transcriptomic analysis of four developmental stages (T1, T2, T3, and T4) in E. ferox seeds with three biological replicates per developmental stage to understand the physiological and biochemical processes during E. ferox seeds development.
