  • Chapter 10 - Storage and file structure. In this chapter, we probe below the higher levels as we describe various methods for implementing the data models and languages presented in preceding chapters. We start with characteristics of the underlying storage media, such as disk and tape systems. We then define various data structures that allow fast access to data.

  • We present the results of a study related to phase transformation of chemically synthesized FePt nanoparticles under high pressure from face-centered cubic into face-centered tetragonal structure. As-synthesized nanoparticles are around 4.5 nm and show superparamagnetic behavior at 300 K. After annealing under 60 bar pressure of hydrogen at 400◦C for 2 h, nanoparticles exhibit strong ferromagnetic behavior with 5391 Oe coercivity.

  • The current and future applications of genomic data may raise ethical and privacy concerns. Processing and storing of this data introduce a risk of abuse by potential offenders since the human genome contains sensitive personal information. For this reason, we have developed a privacy-preserving method, named Varlock providing secure storage of sequenced genomic data. We used a public set of population allele frequencies to mask the personal alleles detected in genomic reads.

  • This paper discusses how to ensure security, i.e., confidentiality and integrity properties, for data in IoT applications. While confidentiality could be assessed via information flow analysis, integrity is ensured by error-correcting codes. In addition to errors, many communication channels also cause erasures, i.e., the demodulator cannot decide which symbol the received waveform represents. The paper proposes a method that might correct both errors and erasures together. Our method is efficient in reducing memory storage as well as decoding complexity.

  • Glycogen storage disease type Ia (GSD Ia), a rare autosomal inherited disorder, is characterized by accumulation of excessive glycogen and fat in the liver. Primary symptoms of GSD Ia include hypoglycemia; metabolic acidosis; elevated levels of lactate, uric acid and lipids; hepatomagaly and growth retardation. Glycogen storage disease type Ia was caused by mutations in the G6PC gene. In this study, mutations in a Vietnamese patient with glycogen storage disease type Ia were analyzed using the whole exome sequencing method. A missense mutation c.356A>T (p.

  • Encoding arbitrary digital information in DNA has attracted attention as a potential avenue for large scale and long term data storage. However, in order to enable DNA data storage technologies there needs to be improvements in data storage fidelity (tolerance to mutation), the facility of writing and reading the data (biases and systematic error arising from synthesis and sequencing), and overall scalability.

  • The development of the Internet has increased the need for daily online information storage. Finding the correct information that we are interested in takes a lot of time, so the use of techniques for organizing and processing text data are needed. These techniques are called text classification or text categorization. There are many methods of text classification, but for this paper we study and apply the Support Vector Machine (SVM) method and compare its effect with the Naïve Bayes probability method.

  • The present investigation was aimed to study the proximate composition, quality parameters, and microbial analysis of microwave heated egg liquid samples obtained from exotic (white leg horn) and indigenous breed eggs (aseel). The microwave heating was done by maintaining different time levels (20, 40 and 60 S). By analyzing the data obtained during study of proximate composition, it was found that, microwave heating at 40 S was the best condition to pasteurize the egg liquid samples for storage. The quality of microwave heated samples was determined by considering pH (7.21 and 6.
