Differences in anomericity and in the branching degree of glucans lead to characteristic intermolecular association that influences their solubility in water or other solvents. A simple purification approach, based on the glucan solubility in aq. 0.1 M NaOH solution, was applied for the separation of mixed water-insoluble α-Dglucans from β-D-glucans extracted from fruiting bodies of Fomitopsis betulina, which is an underexploited medicinal mushroom.

Twenty-four branched maltodextrins were synthesized from eight starches using three thermostable microbial glycogen branching enzymes. The maltodextrins have a degree of branching (DB) ranging from 5 % to 13 %. This range of products allows us to explore the effect of DB on the digestibility, which was quantified under conditions that mimic the digestion process in the small intestine.

The genetic variability and heritability were carried out 66 genotypes of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). A degree of variation was observed for structural and economic traits such as plant height, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod and green pod yield per plant. High PCV was observed for pod weight, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per plant and green pod yield per plant. High GCV was observed for pod weight, number of seeds per plant and green pod yield per plant.

In saffron (Crocus sativus), new corms develop at the base of every shoot developed from the maternal corm, a globular underground storage stem. Since the degree of bud sprouts influences the number and size of new corms, and strigolactones (SLs) suppress growth of pre-formed axillary bud, it was considered appropriate to investigate SL involvement in physiology and molecular biology in saffron.

L X T analysis of yield characters in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) under rice based cropping system
Line x Tester analysis mean sum of square due to genotypes was highly significant for all the traits in E1, E2 and E3. Analysis of variance for combining ability revealed that the variance due to gca were highly significant for all the characters in all the environments except for days to maturity in E1, plant height and primary branches plant-1 in E1, E2 and E3, secondary branches, seed yield and harvest index in E2 and E3, pods plant-1 in E1 and E2, biological yield plant-1 in E2 and protein content in E1.

The present study was conducted to evaluate 38 greengram genotypes to determinethe nature and extent of variation in the phenological traits related to synchronous maturity. A field trial was laid under a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications; observations were recorded on 17 morphological characters. Analysis of variance revealed significant variation among genotypes for all the characters except for 100 seed weight. Different genotypes were found superior for different characters.

The overall goal of this thesis is to define, measure, estimate and decompose the technical efficiency at bank level (for the main study) and the allocative efficiency at branch level (for the pilot study) of Vietnamese banks during the financial liberalisation period by applying both parametric methods and non-parametric methods (data envelopment analysis, or DEA). The two-stage model DEA method is applied in the thesis for two specific stages of banking business (the production stage and the intermediation stage).

Variability studies provide information on the extent of improvement possible in different characters, but they do not throw light on the extent and nature of relationship existing between yield and various contributory characters. Character association or correlation is a measure of the degree of association between two characters. A knowledge regarding the association of various characters among themselves and with economic characters is necessary for making indirect selection for improvement of economic characters.

One of the most important components of pot cultivation of flower crops is the choice of growing medium. It should be well aerated medium with good water retention capacity and good drainage. And ideal growing medium needs to be able to anchor the roots and stems so that the plant will not topple over as it grows larger, yet it should provide adequate moisture, nutrient and aeration to the plant. The cost, local availability and experience in substrate are usually the determining factors for choosing a particular substrate type.

Five faba bean genotypes (Vicia faba L.) were selfed for two cycles to produce S1 and S2 generations. A half-diallel cross was carried out among them in each level of inbreeding (S0, S1 and S2) to obtain 10 F1 hybrids. Parental materials as well as their respective F1s were evaluated during the winter season of 2012. All studied traits except total dry seed yield showed significant inbreeding depression after the first generation of selfing (S1). No further decrease was noticed at the S2 generation. In the S1 generation the degree of inbreeding depression was highest for No.

In the greenhouse conditions, we show that rootstocks are different in the degree of susceptibility to Broomrape. Attachment number, emergence number, and fresh matter of parasitic broomrapes are affected by rootstock genotype. A significant impact of the parasitism onto the dry weight of all infected tomato rootstocks with variable degree is observed.

In the contemporary global academic environment, internationalization of higher education has become a common trend in both developed and developing countries. In Vietnam, a developing country in Asia, initiatives such as branch campus, transnational collaborative arrangements, sandwich programs, English-medium programs and degrees have been put in place as part of higher education internationalization. This has created both opportunities and challenges for the development of the Vietnamese higher education system.

The level of education is expanding in the field of medical science, and the demand for cosmetic surgeons in India is at an all time high. Cosmetic or aesthetic surgery is a fine tuned branch of medicine and requires intensive training. After an MBBS degree ,students would have to pursue a three-year Masters in Surgery (MS) degree and decide upon their area of specialization. The MS degree involves a house job, a junior residency and a senior residency for one year each.

“The study of economics does not seem to require any specialized gifts of an unusually high order. Is it not, intellectually regarded, a very easy subject compared with the higher branches of philosophy or pure science? Yet good, or even competent, economists are the rarest of birds. An easy subject, at which few excel! The paradox finds its explanation, perhaps, in that the master-economist must possess a rare combination of gifts. He must reach a high standard in several different directions and must combine talents not often found together.

In a stylized world, a range of bank structures exists with varying degrees of centralization of decision-making and restrictions on intra-group capital flows. At one end of the spectrum is a centralized model where the bank operates through a branch structure and capital and liquidity flow freely across business units and across borders, typically under the supervision of the authority where the entity is headquartered.

Difficulty in addressing contamination in low permeability soils may be alleviated to some degree by controlled pneumatic or hydraulic fracturing of the soil. However, engineered hydraulic fractures generally cannot be spaced more closely than about 5 feet, which means that chemical oxidants must still penetrate a substantial thickness of low permeability soil to come into contact with the contamination. Deep soil mixing with large diameter drill augers is the most effective method currently available to increase contact between adsorbed contaminants and the oxidants.
